Popular Post webfact
Thai PM Yingluck offers dialogue to end political debacleBy English NewsBANGKOK, Nov 27 – Embattled Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra stressed today that the government is ready for dialogue to seek peace for the country. In an interview with reporters before attending the no-confidence debate at Parliament for its second day, Ms Yingluck said, “We should sit down and talk. The demonstrators’ demands must end with a dialogue. The government has kept the door open, otherwise their demands will not be met. Whatever is good for the majority, we are willing to cooperate.”She said the Internal Security Act has been invoked to facilitate the authorities in protecting state property, not to assault people. The government has emphasised peaceful methods without using weapons or violent measures against the people and “I beg the demonstrators not to close state buildings which could lead to further damages.”She said she has repeatedly instructed provincial governors and police to protect government buildings but refrain from using force against the protesters.Ms Yingluck said she would meet with senior officials at theministerial level today to discuss measures to protect and provide convenience to the public.Asked if she understood the protesters’ description of the “Thaksin regime,” Ms Yingluck said she did not understand it and that the so-called the Thaksin regime has never existed.“There is only one regime. That is democracy. If they are dissatisfied, we should talk. A people’s assembly will not materialise unless we discuss related laws leading to it. We are willing to accept any resolution for the interest of the people,” said the prime minister.Asked what the government would react since demonstrations have escalated beyond a dialogue, Ms Yingluck said, “We have to be firm on a peaceful principle. Don’t believe that you’ll win just because you’ve crossed the line. There are neither losers nor winners. Only the nation will suffer, so as the people. We will not invoke other laws to deal with the protesters.“The government is not stubborn. We must at least have a common principle to work together. Please have your sympathy on the country. Several countries have sent out their warnings on damages to the economy and confidence on Thailand.” (MCOT online news)-- TNA 2013-11-27
Popular Post rubl
The government is not stubborn, we have this common principle of getting Thaksin back with all possible charges against him dropped. That's good for the country. Why doesn't anyone understand this ?

Popular Post bigbamboo
Yingluck is right, there should be dialogue. And the place to talk is in Parliament where everyone can hear what you're saying.

Popular Post WinnieTheKhwai
Honestly I don't know what else she can do. Especailly as Suthep has indicated that even resigning and dissolveing the house is 'not enough'.. So then what. I think it's time for the PM to strike a deal with some of the more level headed figures in the Democrat Party. Anything that will still allow the loonies to claim some sort of victory, while the country as a whole can move on.
TVGerry
She knows what the protestors want. No need for fake dialogue. Address what they want or don't. No one's going to believe her when she says she wants to sit down and have a 'dialogue' because it's all talk but the Shinawatras never listen.
Popular Post seajae
if she is so adamnant that their is no thaksinism involved all she has to do is revoke his passport and issue an international arrest warrant, that would stop everyone in their tracks but she will not and cannot as thaksin is the one pulling her strings. She is so stupid with her pathetic comments, maybe if she actually attended parliament a bit more, stopped the shopping trips as well as stopping all the rorts we might start to listen.

Well Winnie you might be on the money, discuss it fully in very simple language with the Democrats so that she fully understands the problems and then resign and dissolve the parliament. Hopefully by the 4th December, that would be a great gesture on her part.

Nickymaster
Did she already apologize for trying to whitewash her brother? Since that has started the protests it would be a very appropriate first thing to do.
Popular Post jdinasia
Passing very strong organic laws against corruption by elected officials that includes a lifetime ban from politics and civil service employment including the RTP and the DSI. Passing very strong laws against electoral fraud including massive fines and lengthy jail terms and a lifetime ban from politics.Passing very strong organic laws against cronyism and nepotism ..... and THEN dissolving parliament and having snap elections. and finally making sure that the checks and balances are strengthened in the next constitution. That would of course never really happen as long as the regional power families have so much to lose!

smedly
I also notice that no governments or international institutions have offered any support for the current Thai government They including the recent US statement address to the Thai people in general to up hold the principles of democracy and the law, it is a very careful statement that IMO is not supporting the current sitting government and make no mention of it or offer support to them For me that is a very clear message that there is no international support for this government that refuses to abide by the courts and is refusing to do the right thing and step down and an election won't work either as it is also corrupt to the core with vote buying etc - I'd be interested to know who is sitting in the governing body that enforces elections and what changes have been to that body in the last 2 years - that would make some interesting reading

If you and your party win again then everybody has to go back home and live in relative peace and quiet again. For at least some short period of time. haven't you realised elections don't work in this country, the system is too corrupt to support proper fair democratic process - they need another solution until such times as there are enough safeguards put in place the protect democracy and the election process - until that happens they are fooling themselves if they think an election will solve this - it won't There is no democracy in Thailand - democracy is much more than having an election, if they want to move forward they need to agree to outside help because it's obvious they can't manage it themselves coup after coup - dissolved governments - banned MP's - convicted criminals running the government from a foreign country, what more evidence do you need, it has been proven over and over that these people have no idea how to self govern or understand the principles of democracy another election = rampant vote buying = fail it doesn't work- it's as simple as that how many times does history have to repeat itself before they realise Once they have gotten rid of this corrupt crowd of thieves get the auditors in to got through the books and see how many billions are missing - then arrest and lock the whole lot up if they can be found
Popular Post ramrod711
I dislike this government intensely, but i'm not sure where Suthep can go from here. Would revoking Thaksins passport and assuring the Thai people that there would never be another one issued be enough? How about joint committees to assess the flood control projects and the infrastructure expenditures, would that work? At some point there has to be an understanding that the government was elected. I say let them finish their term, keep pressure on them to be transparent and if the people want to re-elect them, take pride in fighting the good fight as the opposition party.
