Popular Post seajae
I have no time for the reds but this is a bit of a stand off, the shinawatras need to be removed from ever destroying Thailand again but this isnt the right way to do it, he needs to negotiate for thaksin, her plus the rest of the family to be removed from politics completely. It is the only way the country can heal itself, will have to see what happens now as I dont think this will get them anywhere. He should also be pushing for thaksins passport to be removed/cancelled and an international arrest warrant issued for him, this would at least get the ball rolling and put pressure on her to do the right thing for Thailand and not her family. And in any case: both sides are a complete ruin for this country, and you still take sides? falangadang
Not exactly a democratic approach by the ex dep head of the Democratic Party. He's taking it a bit too far. In any other country they would have arrested him for treason and civil unrest before he left the building. Maybe then all the others would have eventually dwindled into the background and disapeared by Dec 4th. Yes I know... TiT

hellodolly
Interesting with the head of her three military arms there she has a warrant out for his arrest why did she not just have him carted off to jail? And give a hot start to the chaos? At least she is showing she want to have negotiations, Suthep knows better... On what planet are you located. Issuing arrest warrants and not enforcing them is not how you ask for some one to negotiate. If all she wants to do is negotiate why the warrants. A snap of her fingers and they would disappear. EricBerg
Let's hope the thaksinistas meet the demands of Suthep. After it Suthep himself should vaporise, coz he's a bad guy as well. Then very perhaps Someone Beyond All Doubt or Discussion could encourage a good guy to try to set up a government for the time being. Surin perhaps? hellodolly
"We will not be satisfied with house dissolution or new elections," Suthep said. Sounds to me like this guy really wants a dictatorship. But he did not ask them to do that. He wants to have a special committee set up to govern. That would give us two different leaders who would we follow? As said on Air Asia News he did not really say any thing that was useful. Who would serve on the committee? How do we know they are not worse than Thaksin? Why does he want to keep it a secret. He has made some great accomplishments but I feel he has over played his hand in this one. khunsiam
The people behind Suthep. http://www.scmp.com/news/asia/article/1369801/thai-protest-leader-suthep-son-elite-axe-grind Did you read the article. do you know any thing about it. I suspect the answer in both cases is no Part of the article The people behind these protests are the same people behind the 2006 coup there was no coup in 2006 as there was no government to throw out. So much for the article and not one name mentioned. In August some friends of mine, students involved in the '76 revolt and now PAD'rs, Santi Asoke and Chamlong Srimuang- admirers in Bangkok told me that the people behind the 2006 coup were counseling and preparing demonstrations and "guerilla-style' tactics, that's what I know. I just can't believe why so many people here on TV are still denying the PAD involvement. Suthep and te Democrats are riding on the tail of this Elite.

ballpoint
She really called the meeting to offer him Chalerm's cabinet seat and party list position, which will shortly become vacant when he is beheaded, as a bribe for ending the protest. Popular Post englishoak
"I told her the only solution is to hand over power to the people. There will be no bargaining and it must be finished in two days." Which roughly translated seems to me to say. " I am in a corner with no options left and running out of time so just do what I want by Tuesday or im done" Ive seen some silly comments buy some thai politicians in my time but this takes the prize "We will not be satisfied with house dissolution or new elections," Suthep said. translated, " I dont care about elections or the law or anything else just give us the power " This is the option and solution?? seriously This current government may not be ideal and whiter than white but this guy is about as subtle as a rock, as mad as a hatter and so must be anyone who thinks hes the answer. what a goofball, Edited December 1, 2013 by englishoak

Popular Post xminator
Whatever Suthep said (if there was a dollar for every breaking news with that lead, Suthep says, more insane quotes then Bagdad Bob), this is a significant event. PM Yingluck and the 3 top brass. Suthep was not given a choice to meet or not. I very much doubt he was that square in that meeting. My guess is that this is now about keeping up appearances, Suthep been told by people he tought he had support from to back down, and his been given the chance to back down with some face left. We can only hope the 3 military chiefs back the constitution and let the people chose their new leaders as planned in 2015.

Popular Post icare999
YIngluk could take heat out of all this by simply dissolving parliament and calling new elections but of course Taksin wont allow that since he knows this is probably his last chance and he's quite willing to cause whatever simply to cling on. I can understand anyone simply refusing to accept anything but total dispersal of the evil Taksin clan and none could trust a word they would say. Taksin has said so many times hell stay away from politics, he resigned and then withdrew that and has broken every promise so its understandable for Suphet to refuse any dealings at all. How common people will take this I don't know but I do know Taksin has caused so much angst and hatred against him and his clan from normal ordinary people that they are simply totally fed up with him and want him and lot out. One man and his megalomaniac ego has caused all this and its probably now a war to the end. Zolt
"I told Yingluck that this is the only and last time I see her until power is handed over to the people," "The People", in this case not including the four dead people who died for this "cause". Who sounds like were probably students / young protesters ie. kids pretty much. And for what? Power handed over? How? Why? To who? Is the abstract concept of "power" worth even a grazed knee on a young person, much less their whole future life erased. For nothing. Nothing has been achieved. The massprotest large number of people on the street, for a day, was an achievement and a powerful statement. Everything since then has been tragic, stupid, pointless. "The People" obviously means a council of wealthy Bangkokian Hi-so and southern rubber growers. Because that is exactly what the country needs.

So you dont know how common people would react in an election but claim that normal ordinary would react different ? Please tell us the difference between common people and normal ordinary people ? you seem to be saying they are a different class which inferrs you consider the common people to be inferior and not normal, well its the common people that have the mass vote and perhaps just perhaps that whilst this kind of attitude towards the common people prevails they will continue to mass vote for the party they think will benefit them at least somewhat. It sure isnt going to be the party who considers them to be inferior or abnormal i suspect. Maybe thats why the past 8 elections have always been the same result, the common vote is the vote that counts not the rich or middle class but the commoner in their millions .
