Thaksin opponent says free forum proposal a lie

Featured Replies

If there was an election next week the party in power would win yet again the only way the opposition can get in is by the back door ther are more poor than wealthy in thailand and as long as that remains they the poor will vote for only one party, it is not the poor who are corrupt it is those with wealth after all that is how they got it Democracy can only be achieved by the people voting in a party not by a party forcing its way into power by using force and unlawful means.

Looks good on paper but the poor Thais I know have no love for Thaksin or his family. Also they are all Thai educated.wai2.gif

"The poor Thais i know have no love for Thaksin and his family". Yet they keep voting for them in huge numbers when they are given the chance. How do you square this with your statement? Suthep and the people who are backing him to overthrow this Government know this only too well, that is why they don't want an election. I personally have no particular love for the present government, but like it or not they were elected with a comfortable majority, and if there was an election tomorrow they would again. If Suthep and the people backing him get their way, 61 million citizens will be disenfranchised, elections abolished, no more democracy. A huge backward step, which would have massive ramifications for Thailand both at home and abroad. Just because a tiny minority in their ivory towers believe they have a divine right to rule, and arrogantly refuse to accept that they are just that, a tiny minority, who are totally unrepresentative of the vast majority, and want to turn the clock back to the good old days of feudalism. Hopefully this will not happen. The underclass here, the vast majority, have learned that they have a voice, and an option under a democratic system, and they won't give that up without a fight.
