Depends on what OS you will be using. If Windows 7, you can forego the touch screen. If it's Windows 8, you will really need the touchscreen. If you have big bucks, you could go with the ASUS Transformer which will give the option of using it as an Android 4.2 tablet or as a Windows 8 computer with touchscreen when it's connected to its keyboard. You can Google it for the specs. It's what I would buy if I were in the market for a new machine!

I've just bought the Asus V5-473g ultrabook with the i7 Haswell. I put Windows 7 in as i'm not a fan of 8. Works great (so far). I guess most laptops are much the same these days. Bought it partly on good looks and price (19,900 baht).

Chris2004: Don't you mean the Acer Aspire V5-473G? That's with the Haswell i5 and a 750 GB hard disk, right? It sounds like a nice machine!

Yes correct although they come with either an i5 or i7. I got the i7, not sure if i really needed it but only 2,000 baht more. HD is only 500 gb which is maybe small these days but OK for me. I though for the spec 20,000 was a good price.

I love the look of this machine, but had nothing but great service from Asus. 2 year proper internaitonal warranty..... not sure i need the transformer, also hard to find one here in Phuket

I bought the Asus Ultrabook in the US last July. There are few hardware issues as far as I can tell. I hate some of the Windows 8 problems but I am even adapting to those. A nice, fast machine but I want to believe there are better machines out there.

We are talking about an Acer Aspire here, not an ASUS machine. Chris 2004 - have you thought about replacing that 500GB HD with a Samsung 840 EVO SSD? With the i7 onboard, that would make it one snappy machine! There is a Samsung kit with a USB connector on one end and a SATA connection on the other with software that makes duping the contents of your present drive to the Samsung very easy. I recently got one for my Sony VAIO i5 and the speed increase on some functions seems to be 65-70%! The cost on Amazon.co.jp was only around 33,000 yen with free delivery. Best of luck for a sceamin' machine. BtTW, the 500 GB drive you take out can be slipped into an external drive enclosure for storing redundant data or image backups! Have fun!

What size Samsung 840 EVO did you get for Y33,000 (~B10,300)?

Current price at InvadeIT is B6,350 for the 250GB model and B14,700 for the 500GB model (plus shipping).
