Bit odd ? or is it normal ?

Have new PC Desktop [8 weeks old] Installed Wondows 8...

As with Win 7, get updates, but think it is odd as states the following:

Windows Updates are being downloaded....... fine but the next message ?

Your PC will restart in 2 Days to install important updates...

?? Win 7 always said you must restart your PC to install updates.. so why 2 days ? saying that in the mornings when switching PC on it always say installing updates please wait... last night wrote down what it said..

Lots on search about it but cannot make out, if this is normal...

My understanding is that if you've not already done a restart it will do one automatically.

W7 does the restart without warning you, so I suppose its an improvement.

OK thanks, yep Win7 if you did not restart there and then you could click the pop up and delay restart action..

So yes maybe better if you do not restart within 2 days then PC will auto restart...

Funny the web help pages talked about different settings and using a diffent PC to force a restart, could not make it all out

i found it strange on the update this time.

we use headphones and speaker when talking on skype, for some reason we hear a crackling sound every time we click on which we never had before the update. wednesday

You need to train it better wink.png

Mine always asks first - not sure if it makes any difference if you install automatically or get it to notify you?

The idea is to make sure the PC isn't left unprotected, and these updates, which are mainly security fixes, won't be implemented until a reboot.

You're lucky that your Skype is still working at all! An update to my Skype for Windows 8 yesterday made it stop working completely. Searching through the Skype support pages, I found that many people had the same experience. A poster included a link to a Skype for Desktop download so I uninstalled Skype for Windows 8, installed Skype for Desktop and now it's working fine! Whatever is Microsoft doing these days? There just seems to be one glitch after another. I never have gotten Outlook for Office 2013 to work properly in Windows 8! It works fine on my Windows 7 machines. I'm more and more impressed with my Android devices. They just work well all the time. I hope that Android for the PC is developed soon!

Regarding the "Restart in 2 days" message, you can just restart your machine anytime within those two days to complete installing your non-critical updates. I think that when the update is more critical, the restart within time will be shortened

I must admit I use Skype for Windows Desktop anyway because I hate that Win 8 UI.

But I upgraded my machines from 7 to 8 to 8.1 with Office 2013 installed and I've had no problem.

Are you up to date with Windows Updates? There were loads for Office in the last two months.

Thankfully dont have updates for office, use Kingsoft writer 2013, same same but free.....

I asked the question about the restart because I simply put what is said into to Google and Microsoft help, got so many websites about changing things, well got lost.. eg: http://proweb-solutions.net/blog/windows-8-update-your-pc-will-restart-in-2-days-to-finish-installing-important-updates/

Yes post here and get a simple answer from Crossy and MJCM

Chicog: Running Outlook 2013 in Windows 8.1, I have had two major problems. 1. I can't import my contacts from any of my other Windows machines running Outlook either Outlook 2010 or 2013. I've tried importing both PST files and CSV files, creating separate folders to put the contacts in but just can't import them! 2. Messages archived from my inbox just disappear! I suspect that the enhanced UAC in Win 8 has something to do with it but nobody on Experts' Exchange to which I have a paid subscription has come up with a fix to my problems. If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate hearing them. BTW, I install my updates faithfully and am current as of today.
