I have a non immigrant visa and I am on a one year extension retirement visa. I am outside Thailand at work and I will only be able to return to Thailand after the expiration of my visa, in fact 4 days late. I suppose I will have to enter Thailand on a tourist visa this time but I want to extend again my stay for one year as retirement visa.

If I have to exit Thailand again in order to obtain a non immigrant 0 visa, where is the best place to visit a Thai embassy among Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, India and Kathmandu? I am 63 and eligible for a retirement visa and I have a Thai wife so I am also eligible for a marriage visa. I am Canadian and now in Ethiopia.

If you have the bank account or income situation in place, you shouldn't have to leave. You apply for the extension, if you don't have a Non-Immigrant Visa, they can do a conversion as part of the extension process, then you return to complete the extension process.

You can convert the tourist, or visa exempt entry to a Non-O and get 90 days permission to stay, cost 2000 baht. Then during the last 30 days of your permission to stay, you can extend for 1 year, cost 1900 baht.

If you are working outside of Thailand, it might be a little tricky working the the timing of the extension around your work schedule. Without more info it's hard to say.

Should be moved to visa forum for better info.

You can enter getting a 30 day visa exempt entry and convert to a non immigrant visa entry. You will need the same documents and financial proof (seasoning of money in bank is not needed) you need to get an extension based upon retirement. You must do application for the conversion within 15 days of your arrival.

Not all immigration offices can do the conversion.
