Scamper
The optics of the Yingluck - Thaksin-inspired - administration have never been good, but they appear to becoming more entrenched, and also more vicious. The use of force by the government will only get short-term results. No one expects the protests to be anything other than emboldened by them. The head of CAPO is Surapong. He has condoned the use of force, that are now confirmed by the media as deadly. He is also the foreign minister. And he is also the cousin of Thaksin, to whom he personally delivered a passport to, shorty after the administration took office. There is no daylight between the thoughts of Thaksin and the actions of this administration. Prior to this, it could have been argued that the government had successfully - if modestly - secured the upper hand. That is no longer the case. No, one wouldn't want to do that would one? ramrod711
Surapong to be charged with assault, intent to injure? If Abhisit can be charged for something the army did, Surapong should be charged with something the police did. I would suggest that he be beheaded at the same time as Chalerm. A good beheading of someone like this (or a Tarit) is eminently more satisfying than Christmas, New Year, birthdays, weddings and funerals. Bring me his head!!! gerry1011
With one police officer shot dead, it is now totally clear that these yellow thugs are just criminals and that Suthep only wants power.Considering this, the actions of the police have been extremely restrained. Replying to live ammunition with rubber bullets and tear gas is as restrained as it could be. But for how long? But tomorrow there will be more provocation because violence is exactly what the protesters are looking for. What a bunch of criminals… At least the reds called off their rally after the first day of violence. Praise on them.

tingtongteesood
Square faced fugitive Thaksin is desperate for this election to happen as he knows with his A Team of fraudsters who are well experienced at electoral fraud having been banned for it, that he will certainly win with their help and thus 'legitimize' his reign, then his puppets can amnesty him and hide behind 'democracy' doing so...So his patience has worn thin and he won't tolerate anyone trying to block the election now... Emptyset
"The ministry said of the 32 injured, mostly from tear gas and rubber bullets, one person was critically wounded when he was shot in the head with live ammunition." So who was shooting? As this quote is from the PT mouthpiece, Thai PBS, their silence on this aspect of the story leads to suspicions on my part as to who may be responsible. Of course that is speculation on my part, both sides have their share of nutters. Thai PBS is actually the most neutral TV channel...
Muhendis
We have seen a certain amount of restraint from the authorities to date, now it seems as if the true face of the current caretaker administration is coming into public view and indeed it is an ugly face pitted with the acne of desperation from events in time past to the current event What a lovely turn of words. Not sure what the Shinawatra's 'face' has to do with this. If election doesn't happen, red shirts will be furious and you'll end up with chaos and violence either way. Perhaps a delay of a few weeks would be possible, but that won't stop people disrupting the eventual election, will it? Seems to me people are using Thaksin to justify everything they do, rather than asking themselves whether what Suthep is doing is really in the best interests of the country...
