DarloKnight
Just a bit concerned for inlaws both 69 and will land in BKK on Monday lunch time I know no one can predict what will happen on Monday with regards to protests but will their journey path be disrupted by the protests to Don Muang ? They are flying straight out to Vietnam on Tuesday so have chosen a airport hotel for Monday night. Many thanks in advance for any replies. slipperylobster
Probably will be slow. There is a free shuttle bus that used to take over an hour. Expect skytrains to be packed, if not closed. Taxi's will be quite slow as well, and perhaps more expensive.
DarloKnight
Thank you, hopefully they will get a taxi. Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
craigt3365
A taxi isn't that expensive and can skirt around Bangkok to get to Don Muang. Shouldn't be a problem. I would avoid public the skytrain at all costs.
AloisAmrein
Look here: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2347680 You should calculate more time then indicated here.
flyingdoc
If a hotel is involved, then stay close to Don Mueang if possible. Avoid the Skytrain, which doesn't yet go that far anyway!

nisakiman
I'm arriving on Wednesday morning, and have decided to skip the shuttle bus in favour of a taxi, as I'm quite tight on transfer times. As Craig says above, the taxi drivers will know where the trouble spots are and will be able to skirt round them (hopefully! ).
Sheryl
I would expect that the airport shuttle bus will also know and route accordingly. Its sole purpose is taking passengers between the two airports.
gazwa
Get a Taxi and travel on the Ring road (Tollway) from Suvarnabhumi to Rangsit, then back down Vibhavadi road to Don Mueang. It's the long way but should be clear. Amari Airport Hotel or Asia Airport Hotel both very close to DM. Good luck!

The shuttle bus changed their route last Sunday in anticipation of the protests/shutdown - details here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/694237-change-to-free-shuttle-bus-route-time-5-jan-2014/
