I am looking for a bit information on an ED visa being obtained from Singapore.

I was looking on the website and it says I require the following:

Singapore

1. One completed and signed visa application form
2. One recent passport-sized photograph (3.5 x 4.5cm)
3. Passport (valid for no less than 6 months)
4. Letter from school in Thailand (Original) – The letter must be type in the school’s letter head signed by authorized person
5.Copy of School license or business registration, list of shareholders and school profile.
(Copies of document must be signed by authorized person and affixed the school seal)
6.Copy of Bank statement at leas S$ 5,000
7.Copy of Airline ticket or confirmation slip with flight number and date of entry

I have everything apart from a bank statement. Is this really required? It seems different embassies, although all Royal Thai embassies, require different types and amounts of documentation for visas. Laos Thai embassy does not mention requiring a copy of a bank statement (see below).

Laos

1. Letter of acceptance from the concerned academic institute/organisation
2. Copy of registration certificate of the concerned academic institute
3. For those who wish to study, an official letter from the Ministry of Education of Thailand, or other sub-authorities concerned, approving the enrolment of foreign students is also required
4. Academic record and the Student ID (if currently studying)
5. For those who wish to attend seminar, or training session, or internship, a recommendation letter from the concerned organisation addressed to the Embassy is also required

Anyone know what the lowdown is, is it strict by the information set on the website and is there any reason why they all seem to have different views on what documentation is needed for the same visa?

It is just the way of things, each embassy//consulates sets its own psecific required documents they require to issue the visa.

That you must show that you have money to live on is reasonable, as you are not allowed to work and must be able to support yourself. But often the listed requirements are a bit stricter than if the criteria they actually enforce in practise. The signs are there that asking for evidence on how one will support him or herself while studying will become the norm.

I suggest you contact the embassy to confirm their requirements. There are not enough reports for Singapore to give an answer.

The best suggestion I can give you is to skip going to there for your visa. There have been many reports about them being less than friendly for getting any visa.

i just received my 90 day ED visa in Singapore

Yes they are very strict ...they adopt the "by the book" attitude when processing visa application

I applied my Visa on 10 Jan n submitted a Dec 2013 Bank Statement n they requested that I go to an ATM to print my latest to date balance for my bank account ..,

as long as you stick to the list of guidelines given ... approval is easy ;)

good luck!

I believe.. in life, things happen for a reason <3

Thanks guys.

My only issue is not having the cash in a bank account in my name. My family have been supporting me since I come over and my money has just been play money which has whittled down now. So I don't know what to do in this situation to prove how they sustain my living costs. I have a rented condo in my name to prove my address etc. The school asked who was supporting me financially which I just had to give a name and address and relationship.

Ye I know, it's because i'm already going over to see family in SGP that i wanted to hit two birds with one stone as it were. I tried this in KL at the beginning of December and failed miserably and ended up coming home with another tourist visa......then didn't bother over Xmas and NY and next week i'm off to KL again (which obviously doesn't help) then SGP on the 3rd of Feb. I'll have a job before I get a ED visa at this rate.

Been to SG Thai consulate a couple of times in the past and found them to be in the range between very strict and fascist. There's no leeway on posted requirements and sometimes they make some up ad hoc. Try somewhere else.
