I'm going to fly to Latin or North of South America to stay there. I don't know which country yet, it might be one of the cheap countries or even Mexico. Where in SE Asia I can find cheapest flights? The aim is get a cheap flight, the duration of the flight doesn't really matter.

I was looking for the tickets from Hong Kong to Mexico and Ecuador and the price turned of to be more or less the same - about $1000. That's fun because Mexico and Hong Kong are cities and there should be direct and cheap flight between them. In case I'll decide to stay in India for a while and buy a flight from there, I looked for the flight from Deli to Mexico and again the price was pretty much the same - $1000. I'm not saying it's expensive for me but the cheaper it is, the better I am.

So, from where and to where should I buy such a ticket? Non-direct flight are ok.

Airlines only operate direct or non-stop flights between cities if there is enough traffic to support the route. For instance Cathay Pacific flies in to Mexico City but with a change of planes in LA. The LA-Mexico City leg is on oneworld partner American Airlines. I would imagine on Dehli-Mexico City it may be a little more difficult as Air India is not a member of any alliance.

The cheapest tickets are usually found on the heavily traveled routes where competition is greatest such as London-New York. In my opinion if you can get a ticket for $1000 you are doing well.

You are trying to play a zero-sum game. If fares from the city where you're staying or wanting to go have are higher than from/to another one, getting where ot to the final destination will add at least the connecting flight price.

Further to that, if you are looking at one-way tickets, since these are itineraries not sold frequently like all the others, you will find that they can be 90% or even more than round-trip.

So, what you want to do is not cheap - period, as others have said, $1,000 seems already a good achievemnt.

I don't have a visa to USA and not going to get it. Whereas, I do need it if I take a flight flying through USA. So I can't take such the flights. So, it turned out to be more difficult than I thought - to reach Latin America.

Flying thorugh the US would not change the price. You can, for example, fly one way with BA from BKK to San Paulo on Feb 13th for 700 and that is great deal.

700 what....and where available? Certainly not from the BA website....

Now 731 eur on ebookers.com.

Completely different from the Dollars that were being quoted. So we are back at US$1000 for a one way flight with two stops. First flight with BA and then next two with Iberia. Stopovers are ok, but not quite the bargain we were led to believe. Don't forget those all important currency signs. ;)

I never meant to say it was usd, it just missed to type it in. And never meant to say that one can fly for less from SEA to SA.
