I did it in person, as my parents live 50 km from embassy. First thing is that the Consular Services division is no longer at the embassy on Wisconsin Ave.. It has moved to 2300 Kalorama Rd. NW. Here is a photo:

If there are any specific questions, feel free to ask.

- Same day service, or did you have to return?

- Notarizations required?

- Was a local police report used -- or did you go the FBI route?

- What else should we know?

- Oh, how's the parking?

Thank you, Thighlander, for the information. I have added the location to my map of Thai consulates, giving you credit for the photo and linking to your post as the information source:

All good questions, Jim. No same day service. They say two full business days, so I dropped off between 9am and noon on Wednesday. Normally, I could have picked up on Monday from 11am-noon, or anytime between 9 and 12 on business days after that. However, Monday was a holiday, so I couldn't get it until Tuesday, and the they were closed on Tuesday for snow, so I went in Wednesday. I asked about if snow closings coincided with Federal Government, and she said not necessarily, it was a matter of certain staff being able to make it. Call them and press zero for operator, and they will tell you.

Notarizations....no, but they will be looking for a stamp on the med certificate, and the police clearance. I went local, and I live in a smaller jurisdiction, so it wasn't a real impressive looking certificate, and the lady printed her signature, so they asked the boss and it was OK.

Medical Certificate....I thought this was going to suck, because you need a physician to sign that you are in good physical/mental condition....local health clinic said they give TB certificates, but won't sign anything. CVS clinic does physicals but they aren't MDs and don't sign certificates. I went to where I had gotten a cdl physical five years before, and they insisted on a complete physical for a couple of hundred bucks. Then got on internet, and found www.washingtontravelclinic.com 55 usd, located at 1712 I st, NW. Lebanese Doctor. I had received another TB test within 2 years, so I only made one trip.

Printed out two different bank statements, and one she said was "december," and I said that is the one you get in January, so I said just use the other one, and that was OK.

Parking very good for DC, free two hour street close to consulate, much easier than Embassy on Wisconsin Ave.. Beautiful historic neighborhood, not a part of the original DC grid system, so just use mapquest and it is easy to find. Coming from Georgetown (Key Bridge) use Q street to cross Rock Creek at Dumbarton Bridge.

They don't do single entry for retirement..and assured me the easy way was multiple. 200 USD, and now I have a lot more time to move my 800K to LOS, if at all. They were very nice, but don't expect a travel agency. Meter parking at travel clinic is 2usd per hour, and the meters take credit cards.

On Google Maps it looks like a residential area, with parking along the street (except for the consul's car at the back of the building):

You're welcome Teacher. Not to split legal hairs, but I think it still may be considered the Consular services division of the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington DC, which may be why they require return tickets for tourist visas (unlike LA), and I don't even think they know what a triple entry is.

I don't think I would have made a good teacher. Maestro was the surname of one of my grandparents.

off topic but

i used to work right up the street from there, reall nice area of dc

interesting read on the Kalorama area on Wikipedia. Some very famous people lived up there.

Zillow says this old fixer across the street on 2.49 acres is worth 27,000,000 USD.

Thighlander,

You mention you sent two copies of bank account. Do you mean copies of your US bank account here? I thought they needed copy of bank account showing 800,000 baht deposited for 3 months but then you said you had time to deposit it if at all. Confused...

Both of my accounts were US accounts. They have an adding machine by the window they use to confirm it equals 800K. It will need to be in a my thai account for three months, when I get a retirement extension from within Thailand. "If at all" would apply if I decide not to seek an extension, at 33 thb to 1 usd, I may start moving it over, so I won't be forced to possibly do it at 29, where it has recently been.

Thanks Thighlander.. I thought the 800,000 baht had to be in your "Thai" bank account for 3 months before a retirement visa would be issued. Maybe that is if you apply for one after you are there.

I never knew you could get a retirement visa here before you move. That is great news. So it looks like you will only need to have the 800k in the back the last three months prior to applying for another one year extension, correct?

Do you know if you can use funds(cash) sitting in a fidelity investment account or must it be in a US bank?

You are confusing visas and extensions of stay.

For OA visa you can have the funds in your home country or prove income. An investment account would probably be acceptable as long as you can remove funds at any time. Info for OA long stay visa here: http://www.thaiembdc.us/dcdp/Non_Immigrant_Long_Stay

For an extension of stay based upon retirement you obtain from immigration here the funds must be a a Thai bank unless you can prove income of 65K baht.
