BANGKOK: -- A protester who was believed to be involved in vandalizing the name plate of the National Police Office was found shot dead behind the wheel of his car in Ratchaburi province on Friday.

The victim was identified as Supakarn Yubanyong or Maew Banrai, 56, a member of the Network of Students and People for Thailand’s Reform. He was reported to be one among a group of protesters who vandalized the NPO’s name plate during a protest in front of the police head office on Wednesday.

Pol Lt-Col Pongsakorn Khemraj, a police specialist of Ratchaburi Muang district police, said that the victim was driving his Honda Jazz when he was attacked by gunman who might have followed him unnoticed in another car.

Then the gunman fired two shots with a shotgun at him killing him at the scene. The victim’s car lost control and plunged into a roadside ditch.

Two 12-gauge spent shells were found on the road not far away from the scene where the car plunged into the ditch.

I know the coup-mongers will be all up in the air about this and play the holier-than-thou card, plus who the perps were is anybody's guess....However, even in well policed societies it is generally known by the criminal element, that messing with the police personally, is risky......Not that this is anywhere close, but someone who kills or injures a policeman better make tracks, and fast. Revenge may be slow in coming, but come it will....The Police are a fraternity of brothers in the end. You mess with one, you mess with them all.

That said, I wont stoop to the level of those who expressed a gleeful reaction to the shooting of UDD/RS leader Kwanchai, in the case of this tragedy.

Messing with the police here does not always get you in trouble. There are a few known cases of eluding justice...

Thaivisa should open in South Africa: SAVisa.com? The expats there will have a field day on criticizing the police and government, and justly so! But then who in there right mind would want to retire there?

TIT.

People regualarly are killed for much less than this. Always been the same and has nothing to do with Thaksin or Suthep,.. it comes with the territory.

Student on motorbike was shot dead in phuket few years ago middle of road by another biker. The thug who did it said he thought the boy had looked at him.

This is why people need to take more heed of the talk of civil war. There are many people on both sides of this political divide who are more than capable of killing... and for quite small reasons. Coup is a big thing and could easily badly escalate.
