Chuwit engages in brawl with protesters

BANGKOK: -- Rak Prathet Thai party leader Chuwit Kamolvisit and his guards engaged in a brawl with some protesters at about 8:40 am after he tried to break through the protesters to vote.

Chuwit was seen on Channel 9 head-locking a man and repeatedly hitting him.

After the brawl, Chuwit returned home without voting. He said he would not file a complaint with police.

Chuwit's image can be seen on campaign posters in the North with arms outstretched, gesticulating exuberance among the people. Those arms it seems are quite versatile.

At least Chuwit is entertaining !!!!! Is he still a MP, he seems to have been quiet on his Anti Corruption Campaign for the last 6 months?

My wife says that Channel 9 says he DID get to vote. The Channel 9 footage show him casually walking up to the PDRC and saying ' listen boys, i'm going to vote and we can do this peacefully or not....' It turned out 'not' He did bring 20 'helpers' with him apparently.

As mentioned above Chuwit is hardly camera shy, and to describe him as a 'Thai party leader' is not to paint the full picture, but good on him - at least he had the balls to go out and try to vote. He hates Thaksin too so all you PDRC supporters on TV can enjoy this little episode!!

It looked like some sort of group of Thai staff in the typical dark bush jacket type attire were ganging up on someone. It looked like Chuwit never got a swing in. At least the guy that went up against Chuwit had the character to go at him alone , whereas Chuwit needed his "staff." Thais love to gang up rather than have a good go single handed.

Most other MPs would have turned tail and ran ...

Chewit has a long history:

He was captured by a corrupt police officer years ago after refusing the pay a bribe. He escaped, went to the press to ensure he stayed free. He is popular and was expected to win his seat.

Suthep tried to get him to join Suthep's PDRC thugs, he declined, and made it clear to everyone that they should vote.

PDRC have the polling boxes for his voting station, so he was unable to vote. Here he is before the election urging people to vote and saying he will be voting at Din Daeng polling station, if they want to try to stop him.

An interesting side note from yesterday. The army cleared the area of all protestors, but did not release the polling boxes for the elections.

(added, it's a funny video, he say if people want to stop him, this is what he'll have, then goes to draw a gun.. id card!)

Yes agree.

There should be a very heavy emphasis on the word "he" in my original post.

yes and what seems to give him the right to blow his whistle into his ear several times? He was lucky that Chuvit's bodyguards did not make him swallow his stupid whistle!

Now Chuvit had his men around him - what about other voters who are alone and intimidated by these rather primitive individuals?

Thai citizens have every right to vote - while the protesters do have NO RIGHT to try and stop them!

You don't want to vote stay home! - don't try to intimidate others!

And this just out now - the man did not only blow his whistle at him but attacked and hit Chuvit in the face.

police owned casinos to shut down... :-) Also strange he would seek confrontation.

Well I would prefer him 1000 times before any other Shinawatra....At least he has something like a mafia style honor....

Brawl with the protesters....but we won't need the police......A Shinawatra would sue them for 1 wrong word.....They opened 500 law suits against Sondhi only for his speeches....

As Chuvit is the only one who worked himself in an open market and is surely 1000 % smarter than the current PM.

I am sure he enjoys the publicity from this fracas.

After watching the video of the altercation, I will give Chuwit his due, he got right back up and took it to them. No waiting to hide behind body guards, or 6 of them ganging up on one, just got down to what he has done for decades, grab the bull by the balls and give it a good pull. The young punk may have second thoughts the next time about going after the older folks.
