"We are speaking directly to all elements in Thai society to make clear the importance of using democratic and constitutional means to resolve political differences," Psaki added.

Wow, you actually talked to Somchai the tuk tuk driver. Exactly how gullible do you think we are?

If there was any threat to Chinas interest and they said "we don't want to see violence", would everyone be on here saying "bog off china, mind ur own business".

Because, its a sign that they care at least. One day, maybe the USA might just make best new friends with Burma and Cambodia and say "hey, we bogged off, don't choke on Beijing's schlong".

Sure it is......

Holly smoke, who the fudge these Americans think they are? The world is sick of them, mind your own money printing ponzi scheme business and leave the rest of the world alone and <deleted>.

LOL another satisfied customer.

Always good to hear from these jerks who forget that Once Upon a Time, their own Country was meddling in affairs all over the globe.

Took America to set it straight.

Posters here are still taking about Beijing controlling Myanmar when Prez Obama went there last time he was here because now the United States practically owns the place. The CIA with Suu Kyi. Don't be fooled by their rhetoric, their disappointment, or their concern. Their primary goal is to still have a seat at the table when this is all over... If they are lucky! sent the monks into the streets twice to bring the regime there to heel. Now the US has veto power over all foreign investment in Myanmar which aces Beijing out and leaves it wondering what the ____ happened

That has got to be the most humorous post of the day from someone who truly knows how global politics work. CIA says jump, the minions jump. And the US owns Myanmar with all those Mig 29s out on the pan at the military airport. LMAO at the arrogance.

And if you knew anything about 'the Lady' the CIA would be the last association you would make, and it's actually quite insulting.

I'm not going to allow you to derail the thread by getting into a match with you.

What needs to be said is that you need simply to think about things, never mind knowing them, but then even that would be asking far too much. The CIA, Aung San Suu Kyi wouldn't? Prez Obama committed himself to visit Myanmar for the fresh spring waters? Prez Obama flew to Thailand, met with Yingluck and the King, went to Myanmar for a half day, flew back to Washington. That alone says nothing to you?

The CIA organizes two campaigns by the monks, the first to destabilize the regime, the second to push it to the precipice, and you say the agency would not connect with Suu Kyi and her network? Aung San Suu Kyi wants to be president. She's a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate. She knows which side she draws resources from, and which side she's on and always has been on. She'd be insulted you know so little of the real world and grateful you're not in Washington making policy.

The only thing USA set straight was the realisation of the rest of the world that the US craving for power and world domination was / is at the forefront of all foreign policy since the Great Depression. In the context of the OP the US will continue to meddle and attempt to be at the forefront of the Thai aftermath. They still don't understand that the rest of the world have learnt their US lessons and once the cash dries up there will be no more room at the table.

"We are speaking directly to all elements in Thai society to make clear the importance of using democratic and constitutional means to resolve political differences," Psaki added. I thought that part of the reason the protests started was because the current government didn't use democratic and constitutional means. If they had, Thailand would most likely not be in this position. A little late, Psaki.

The world's policeman has spoken. I suppose storming the beaches of Pattaya would be popular with the Marines, probably be more casualties from disease than wounds.

fter reading your reply, I read the article a couple of times to make sure I was not missing something.

Jen Psaki said and I quote:

"concerned that political tensions, were challenging the divided kingdom's democracy."

Do you know of any country in the world that would not be????

then she was quoted of saying:

"We certainly do not want to see a coup or violence,"

do you now of any country that would? other than any country that bared ill will towards Thailand?????

Followed by:

"We are speaking directly to all elements in Thai society to make clear the importance of using democratic and constitutional means to resolve political differences,"

Good advise if you would ask me, Would you advise them differently????

The rest of the article was "Hamburger helper" nothing really to do with the American statement.

Where in the Statement was any Warnings?????????????????

Where from this statement you and the people that clicked "Like" on your rely , discerned any direct or implied threat of intervention.

How did you and your buddies, go from a plain concern to the Marines??

Jai Yen Yen

They are sat on the fence and will stay put until they are sure exactly which side to fall off on. Don't be fooled by their rhetoric, their disappointment, or their concern. Their primary goal is to still have a seat at the table when this is all over... If they are lucky!

Yeaa, just like any good diplomat would do. wouldn't it be awfully stupid for them to do otherwise?

What rhetoric? do you know of any western country that is saying anything different from the US

Why is there even an article about this statement?

Can you think of an even more generic diplomatic statement than the above?

Is there anything the US can say that would not be found wrong by the Peanut Gallery?

Thank you for enlightening the rest of us of how the CIA has moulded Burmese politics in recent years. It would be good if you wrote it up a tad more succinctly for submission to the 'Private Eye' magazine, so that those outside of TV can also be educated.

You forgot to add that I am either "terrorist" or "fascist". Anyone who dislikes agression and supports freedom falls into one of the abovementioned categories.

Meh, the American "capitalism" is worse than the Chinese "communism". In both systems people have no freedom, but in China at least people are aware of it, whereas in the US the majority are brainwashed so they have no idea of their unworthy existence: having two or three jobs just to pay off debt and huge bonuses for greedy WallStreet bankers while being constantly under fear for your own and your loved ones lives - THANKS, but NO! Keep this "freedom" for yourself and Israel ...

The statements quoted from US sources are stock statements the US would give in any similar situation but the headline makes it sound as if the US is warning the generals not to have a coup. Nothing like sensationalizing the headline.

"The Thai premier's opponents say she is a mere puppet for her elder brother Thaksin, who was ousted by the military in 2006 and lives in Dubai to avoid prison for a corruption conviction."
This statement has been made in just about every article the Nation writes these days regarding the current political situation. It really is getting pretty old now. I don't see why this statement is necessary as it adds nothing to the journalistic content but if they are going to use it can't they at least vary the sentence a little from time to time?

Can the Yankees - just for ONCE - keep their big nose out of it.

I thought the statement in the article did just that.

it said that violence was bad, democracy and the adherence to the constitution was good .

I guess you disagree with that?

For the America haters out there, this article was incorrect in its title. There was no warning from America. What, are we going to invade Thailand if there is a coup? Nope. We haven't during the last 18. Just a friend telling another friend to try to resolve your problems through dialogue and the ballot box instead of through a coup. We've never had a coup but a god awful civil war which killed more than a half a million people.

I love the language the US likes to use in reference to other countries-' deeply concerned', 'deeply disappointed'.

Patronising nonsense, stop worrying US and learn to enjoy life.

If the US stops worrying can we keep the billions of dollars we give Thailand every year?

Everyone claims to mistrust, defy, or simply dismiss the US outlook on Thailand; yet they consistently, almost daily, single the US out from the chorus of like-minded opinions from across the developed world.

Some sort of weird fetishization here.

All right, enough with the off topic rants. Please abide by forum rules:

Next comment violating this will result in a posting holiday. Plenty of other forums out there that allow political rants....err....discussions.

And when Beijing comes in here to take over and turns this board into a subsidiary of the People's Daily, your post above will be approved, mine won't be and mine instead will be stricken, censored. That thought makes your day, I know.

It would appear you haven't read all the posts in the thread. Several chronic types have found a great deal wrong with the US statement, and with the United States itself. Beijing hasn't quite taken over in Thailand just yet, and some of us are grateful for that because the CCP lives and will die by absolute censorship, sort of like Ultraman Suthep's "absolute democracy."..

Judicial coup my ass ! The courts doing their job properly is not a coup ! Half of PT are criminals to start with, the courts should scrutinize them all very closely and all irregularities should be investigated and punished as necessary. After that they can stret on every other politician past, present and future...

Can the Yankees - just for ONCE - keep their big nose out of it. Whatever they touched in Indochina - was a mess.

Get your 50 million American-Americans off food stamps and into jobs, produce competitive products rather than telling the whole world what to do and start thinking on how you want to pay back those USD 85 billions (yep, billions) monthly which are printed by the Federal Bank (which is not one state-owned bank but a consortium of 10+ private banks). And while you're at it, give your kids some decent food which might result in having less than 20% of them being overly obese.

Pathetic!

Total rubbish, but a good rant none the less. The Thai/US BI-LATERAL Alliance is patently relevant to both nations, and because it is relevant to both nations, The US can voice an opinion. Take it as advice, take it as a warning, take it anyway you want... it is what their position is.

Beijing is already in control...... Uncle Sam can be as disappointed as he wants.
Beijing doesn't run Thailand. A bunch of thai Chinese run it, and they love to get paid by whoever.

That so far on average has been the USA, Japan and others. China is still a new kid on the block here. The USA still has sway with the politicos on all sides the army and a lot of the old farts.

With respect the Chinese geo political influence in this whole region is far stronger than any western media would have you believe. Be careful you don't miss the crucial signs by watching too much CNN. Uncle Sam is no longer the force he once was. Their failed military incursions across Asia have relegated them to nothing more than a cash cow. And once DPRK has been brought into line by the Chinese (in a similar fashion as Myanmar) Uncle Sam's presence will become irrelevant. Don't worry this is another what maybe10 years down the road, but the dragon is gaining strength day by day by day..... Globally not just in SEAsia.

You mean like :

America = Farang

Thailand = Bar Girl

China = BG's gik
