Thai protesters defiant as US warns against coup

webfact

Recommended Posts

If there was any threat to Chinas interest and they said "we don't want to see violence", would everyone be on here saying "bog off china, mind ur own business".

Because, its a sign that they care at least. One day, maybe the USA might just make best new friends with Burma and Cambodia and say "hey, we bogged off, don't choke on Beijing's schlong".

Beijing is already in control...... Uncle Sam can be as disappointed as he wants.

To borrow a line from your signature:

I think you are thoroughly mistaken, old chap.

I take it that the "element" of the ex-pat community hasn't been contacted yet. That's probably because nobody gives a shit what an ex-pat thinks. Superfluous typing

Actually, they do. Maybe not here, but they do.

I don't think coup will be the issue. I heard a rumor from some Thai people that Thaksin paid the army.

So far, this protest by Suthep has been more peaceful than the one in 2010 by the Red.

One of the possible ways to peacefully end this conflict is that Thaksin clan are completely removed from Thai politics.

Obviously, the PM and Thaksin want to stay in power to pursue their own agenda.

If they want peace, they can step down to end this crazy situation. Can they do it? Probably not.

You heard that rumour too? You must have been speaking to the same bloke down the pub that I was speaking to, must be true then

I heard the story from one of the known Plutocracies when I had dinner with them.

I don't go to pubs because I don't drink.

I asked them the reliability of the information. They said not 100% accurate but possibly true.

They are not 100% sure because there is no evidence but they most likely believe that it is true.

The paid amount is ridiculously high just like winning a huge jackpot.

This is just a rumor and I don't know the truth.

Someone Needs to they'll the US this is none of their business

Someone needs to tell and show you how to type, so we can understand. Brilliant words of wisdom nonetheless; not like they have an investment nor involvement or citizens here, right wise guy? Another bitter guy from a socialist state? Will you enjoy China's censorship of your trolling more?

Huh? You seem to be the bitter and wise guy here dude. It looks to me like you understood my typing without much help. Good for you. This has nothing to do with China. As far as I am concerned the US should be much more concerned about China, which is eroding the American economic supremacy, than about a bunch of rice farmers in a country that does not matter much to the rest of the world. I am certain that the US embassy foes not care much for the caliber of "personnel" trolling the streets of Thailand, for your information. And about vested economic interests, wake up buddy, there ain't no oil! (I hope I typed that correctly)

Holly smoke, who the fudge these Americans think they are? The world is sick of them, mind your own money printing ponzi scheme business and leave the rest of the world alone and <deleted>.

LOL another satisfied customer.

Always good to hear from these jerks who forget that Once Upon a Time, their own Country was meddling in affairs all over the globe.

Took America to set it straight.

ooooorah.

Slipperylobster, I tend to agree... but there are valid points on both sides... And, yes... I'm American...

America DOES interfere and downright meddle in a lot of places that they should keep their nose out of... and there are a good many cases where they totally backed the corrupt dictators because of their own national interests... But, that doesn't mean that they shouldn't say "avoid violence" and "seek a diplomatic solution" to problems like what is going on in Thailand today... That is really the only responsible thing ANYBODY can say. And I don't get why people like reflectionx are offended by it.

To reflectionx, I'm not sure where you are from, but slipperylobster has it right... for all the missteps that the US has made, that I fully recognize and will not try to support or justify, maybe all the haters like you that like to run your mouths off like this should stop and think about what the world would be like if we hadn't been there to fight the good fight over the years.

Where are you from? Europe, where we saved your asses from the friendly and supportive Third Reich who clearly knew how to mind their own business and keep their opinions to themselves?

Or my guess is you are an Aussie (you just have that arrogant, yet insignificant, tone to your post) where we saved your asses from getting overrun by the Japanese, who were another model country for staying home and minding their own business and respecting the rights of others....

Not trying to live on past glories, but the fact is that somebody has to stand up and put their money where their mouth is to deal with global terrorists, murderous dictators, and oppressive regimes. The fact is that modern geo-politics isn't easy to deal with and nobody makes all the calls the right way and no country is perfect. I'll join sides with you in a second to criticize the bad calls that the US has made and is making on those issues, but to rant off like this about a reasonable public diplomatic communication just shows that you just want to talk smack about the US, not that you have any real point of view.

And you are welcome, for the US protecting your right to free speech that you exercise to make yourself look like a fool.

Good day to you, sir.

I wonder what US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki would say if Yingluck started lecturing the USA on how to run their country? I suspect she'd extend the big red, white and blue finger.

It's not appropriate for the employee to lecture the boss. The USA provides military protection & huge economic support to Thailand, without which they would long ago have been history.

who's the boss?

My god.

The US military and the Thai military are big brother and little brother. The US Government is making this statement because it knows what's going on out of our view. The Pentagon knows what Prayuth had for breakfast this morning and Prayuth knows it. The State Department knows what time Prem got up this morning. This is a shot across the bow.

Asean begged the United States to commit to its "Pivot to the Pacific," its Rebalancing away from the Middle East and central-south Asia to the Indo-Pacific strategic region, in economics, politically, militarily. Air-Sea Battle of ships, planes, stealth, missiles, is the new warfare replacing boots on the ground.

Posters here are still taking about Beijing controlling Myanmar when Prez Obama went there last time he was here because now the United States practically owns the place. The CIA with Suu Kyi sent the monks into the streets twice to bring the regime there to heel. Now the US has veto power over all foreign investment in Myanmar which aces Beijing out and leaves it wondering what the ____ happened. No one hears Japan here every day pressuring the old guard to knock it off because Japan and the US are moving into Myanmar to develop it while making an honest buck out of it and to have more broadly based elections that put Suu Kyi in the presidential palace, giving the deeds to the generals for their private South Pacific islands.

I don't know how anyone on either side of this mess going on here gets any sleep at night because half the governments and corporations of the world and all of them in Asean are on the phone to all the players. Ambassadors and the UN and dozens of others are calling day and night, the principal players and their principal people on all sides have ten calls on hold while they're simultaneously handling three calls from dozens of governments, global investment banks, corporations, tourism companies - the list gets long and the contacts intense and frantic.

My god.

Edited to add the EU and just about all of the EU member governments and corporate interests in constant contact with the principal players on all sides warning, admonishing, cajoling, begging, same as the other dozens of governments of the region and around the world that are invested in Thailand or, such as Amnesty International, profoundly interested and committed to peace and order in the former LOS. The global and regional media are all over the place digging for information and stories, the background scoop and all the rest of it, calling the principals, tracking them down for interviews, information etc. New Delhi is worried, Beijing is worried, Canberra is trying to calm the place. There's no end of the commotion going on here and globally, regionally - and then there's the players internally here themselves carrying on 24/7 too. There's a reason nobody sees YS even while there's an election going on, cause she's got phones growing out of her ears.

This is what happens whenever anybody mentions China. Publicus goes uncorked and starts spewing all sorts of bizarro conspiracy theories.

Can the Yankees - just for ONCE - keep their big nose out of it. Whatever they touched in Indochina - was a mess.

Get your 50 million American-Americans off food stamps and into jobs, produce competitive products rather than telling the whole world what to do and start thinking on how you want to pay back those USD 85 billions (yep, billions) monthly which are printed by the Federal Bank (which is not one state-owned bank but a consortium of 10+ private banks). And while you're at it, give your kids some decent food which might result in having less than 20% of them being overly obese.

Pathetic!

Funny how the word Yank use to be an endearment in World war 2 when we were helping your war mongering asses from speaking German. Good enough for us to help you in WW1 and WW2 ehh. If only we could have said let the Germans and Japanese have them we don't need Europe. I am sure all those victims buried in Kburi would be grateful the US bombed the bridge and stepped in. What did the Brits and French want to do after WW2 divide Thailand who stopped them America that is why they get along with us more than they get along with you so stop crying like a bitch. PS The European banks borrowed a s**t ton of money during the crisis seems you forget that aspect of your argument. How much does your country contribute to regional security in Asia? What do we benefit from it? A: Not a whole lot! Why not talk about oil and how the US is only there for said oil ever though we get less than 14% of our oil from said region and pay the same price for a barrel as the rest of the world. Seems that other 85% goes where? And you guys pay what?

Well said BigRick,

I just said in another post that the US isn't perfect and I'll criticize any one of their screw ups just as loud as anybody... but there is a lot of this anti-American nonsense coming from countries that should dam_n well know better and shame on them that they don't.

I think you hit it on the head... they are all "crying like a bitch" because they know they come from countries without the balls, resources, or respect to even attempt to address these geo-political issues and America's leadership to even TRY just make them feel that much more inadequate.

Yes America does seem to address a lot of geo-political problems.......its nice of them of course....but i think it would be nicer if they didn't

You and me both its 300 less billion dollars we can spend on the asshat countries of the world. We got our own oil let China,India and Europe fight over the middle east. Let Asia fight over a couple rocks in the sea. We should embrace Russias push into Europe because hey it would be nicer for Europeans like you if we "just didnt". We could save a ton of money in disaster relief also I heard the Chinese are big spenders when it comes to helping people. As far as Thailand goes they are our allies we are their strongest allies. Don't fool yourself into thinking the EU carries the lions share of aid or finance to Thailand. Hopefully you guys can figure out the Syria problem just like Bosnia and Libya, Ohh wait that is right you made us waste our resources on a localized human refugee crisis so France and Italy did not. How about that NATO lets get rid of that albatross around the US taxpayers neck. No more Marshall plans no more bailout no more buying Euros to stabilize your high unemployment countries like Ireland and Spain. To the idiot that said China owns the US 16.2 Trillion GDP vs. to Chinas 8.3 trillion wouldnt China be 24 trillion + is they owned the US? That is the thing that chaps us as Americans we get crapped on for helping when most of us would rather just watch you asshats do yourselves in. Most of the British I have gotten to know actually have a much different opinion once you talk to them. It mostly revolves around trying to minimize Britannias role in subjugating most of the civilized world. American colonialists good one! Here, please take Puerto Rico and the US Samoan islands our imperialism is just getting out of hand we might take over French Polynesia in 5000 years at this rate. It amazes me we live in this giant expanse of many nations yet we can't get along for the betterment of everyone. Every day we are against each other is another day we move backwards. So hate America all you want just please stop expecting us to pay for all the worlds problems.

I've been trying to hold my tongue but I've reached that point. America has its problems. It's government is far from perfect and it's system of justice and government is the severely screwed up and yet it is still the shining light on the hill. We are the standard of freedom for the world. Do we have greedy individuals as well as corruption. You bet we do.

Do we spend to much of our resources as world police? I think so yet those people we help might disagree. Name a free country that is better off without us. I can, Vietnam. Are we perfect. Hell no! Are we the standard of freedom? Hell yes!

Are there better managed countries? Singapore comes to mind. Maybe some other micro states. I love Canada as well. I would love for my country to keep to itself for a few years. Put up the closed for business, be back in 50 years sign, but I know the world would suffer for it. I love the time I am spending here living and working in Thailand. Despite what most posters say the Thai people have been wonderful to me and I am truly sad as I leave for other parts of the country. I leave my new friends with vows to stay connected and I will hold them and this country in my heart forever.

That being said, I also have developed a profound longing for the United States. Not simply my family and friends but for my home country. With all it's faults and follies, the greatest country in the world. A land of second chances and new beginnings for millions of citizens and transplants. A country I am proud to call home.

Sounds like second stage culture shock. There is very little I miss about the US. Not the necessity to go through a list of providers for electricity, natural gas, insurance (health and home and car), telephone, and TV and then having your application for many of these public services scrutinized by a private sector credit ratings agency. I don't miss being fondled and inspected at airports or having cameras looking for your front tire to touch the stop line on the pavement so they can issue you a $500 moving violation and increase your insurance (see above). I don't miss the constant inspections, the laborious tax filing system, the obesity causing fast food chains, or the illegal aliens who break into your house, ram your car, or take the spot in front of you in the emergency rooms, all of which you pay for while they go scott free. I don't miss property tax rates that have become confiscatory or public highways being turned into toll roads. And most of all, I don't miss Jerry Jones and his band robbers who bought the Cowboys and became a symbol for everything wrong with American values and the American economy.

Well you're in the right place with your man Suthep and all the rest of his dinks.

You over here means one fewer tea party wingnut back home mucking things up even more. Your Suthep Ultraman views make life very difficult for you in the States, for sure.
