February 5, 201412 yr Apparently there is a big market there for it now. Has anybody done it who can share some information regarding how many jobs are on offer and the salary one could expect to earn? Also, although there are companies offering TESOL and CELTA courses in Australia , they are more expensive than Thailand - and you also have to take the cost of supporting yourself while studying into account as the cost of living has skyrocketed in recent years. My question here is: Are courses taken in Thailand respected and accepted as much as courses in Australia ? Thanks in advance for any info.
February 5, 201412 yr Following some nasty scams by some English schools, leaving 100s of Asian students stranded, the Oz Govt is now very tough on who can teach English. I made enquiries, having only TEFLA training and some years teaching in Asian, but no way! Must have a degree and not sure if it's compulsory, but also Dip. Ed.
February 5, 201412 yr Author Thanks Masuk. May I ask when it was you made inquiries? I have been told that things are not so strict these days ( perhaps things have changed ? ) I have inquired about courses in oz and have been told a tesol cert. is the minimum requirement.
February 5, 201412 yr I'm told Oz is the most diverse country in the world regarding differently nationality & cultures. If so, I'm not surprised the demand for ESL teacher's is high. 20% of the students I attended high school with where exchange students. Mostly from Japan & China. Very rich kids. A little off topic, sorry !
February 5, 201412 yr CELTA and Trinity TESOL are accepted in Australia at language schools but most local TEFL's wouldn't be. You would need a Bachelor's degree also. I know a guy who got his CELTA in Bangkok worked in Thailand for a few years and the returned to Australia and teaches at a language school there. There are a few language schools in BKK that have schools in Australia also.
