Tesol Course Bangkok

Featured Replies

I need some information on doing this course in Bangkok, i think you can do an intensive course for two weeks in siam square but i was wondering how much it would cost, and is the course worth it.

Also im 23 and do not have a degree, so what are my chances getting work in a school or somewhere else, i have heard that i will not be able to get a work permit if i dont have a degree, can someone clarify this please??

A two week course isn't a 'proper' course mate. It needs to be over a 100 hours class time and at least 6 hours OTP I'm afraid to be of an 'international standard'.

You'll easily get work without a degree, but it will be harder for them to get you a work permit. It's not impossible to get one without though and it does seem to be happening more frequently.

A good course will run around 40-60,000THB ($1000-1500).

CELTA is tough if you have never taught English.

Text and Talk is well regarded by most people and very practical, flexible course design (4 or 6 weeks) and not too expensive.

TESOL at AUA is to be avoided IMO.

You should take one with at least 120 hrs + practice teaching sessions like T&T.

Good luck.

You've already gotten good answers regarding TEFL courses.

You can look around this forum, esp. in the pinned topic at the top of the index on "Qualifications" for more advice.

General consensus among longtime teachers in Thailand about teaching with TEFL but no degree: you can expect lower wages, and fewer job offers, and a much harder row to hoe to get properly license and work permit. You might be illegal for many months, which nobody recommends.

And if you don't have a real visa to work in Thailand, you're also breaking immigration laws. Again, non-degreed teachers find it more difficult than those of us who had all the right schtuff; some of us went for years illegally, and we're not proud of it. :o
