Jsattv - Will It Have The World Cup Games?

I have just been looking at the JSatv web site and it looks like the sports package will have the World Cup gamnes with English soundtracks. (For those who don't know, UBC will not carry the matches; Thai TV will, but only with Thai commentary.)

I am seriously considering getting a JSat satellite, but it looks like the sports package also requires a subscripton - does anyone know how much?

There's so many packages there, its all a bit confusing. Can I get the sports channels, as well as movies, Fox News etc? Does the dream package include the sports channels?

Any JSat users out there who can throw some light on this?

Yeah, I know I'm stupid - goes with the age. :o

Thanks

Are you saying that if we get our Thai Tv via UBC satellite, we can use the language button to get the original soundtrack - as per normal? If you're right that solves all the problems. I wonder how we can check this?

I tested this out the other night during the Arsenal- Barca match. Was able to get the English commentary on UBC's Thai TV channel by changing languages using the third button down on the right side of the UBC remote. Same commentary as the regular UBC feed. But there's no guarantee that this will be the same for the World Cup is there?

Yeah, that's exactly what I'd like to know. I wonder if its worth asking someone at UBC? :D Not sure if we'd get an intelligent reply. :o

When I had ubc you could always get the english sound track on the football games using the remote so I dont see that changing just becase its the world cup. The Thai tv channels always use 2 languages on there broadcast so I dont think this will change for the world cup. :o

Well It could be that the thai tv channels are getting the broadcast from another sat that does not have the english soundtrack. All the football that the thai tv channels put on are from espn or sky from star sports that have 2 soundtracks thai & english. We will just have to wait and see.

I wouldn't count on it.

There's a long letter in the Bangkok Post today from a farang in Pattaya, and he states unequivocally that the UBC transmission of Thai TV matches will NOT carry the original soundtrack. This is the purpose of his letter - to complain that the Thais are not paying the extra to carry the soundtrack.

The Bangkok Post article the other day effectively said the same thing.

I have sent an email to UBC asking them to confirm my understanding. Will let you know if and when they reply, but I fear the worst. There is no way you can get the soundtrack unless you get a pirate TV set up. I don't normaly get uopset about this sort of thing, but considering the thousands of farang residents, and thousands of tourists, it does seem to be the thin edge of the wedge. :o

would probably fall asleep during the england matches anyway

what i mean by that is the first match timing is at a half decent time, the next two are well late and i need my beauty sleep, and not only that will be a bit worse for wear :o

I think the JSat pricing comes via DStv africa package, which is about 2,300 baht a month!

Super Sport is the best for all soccer, rugby, golf, motor sports, etc. Have 8 sport channels.

I don't have a dish as we get it through the local cable network. Only problem is the guy running it likes football so we see all the games, but doesn't like rugby so my missus has to phone them up to change the channel if he watches the motor racing :o

watch the thai match on mute and listen to radio 5 live

NICE ONE :D:D could it be any more simple? what is radio five live frequncy amigo?

There's a number of current threads on this subject - there's one in general topics and there is a special World Cup thread.

I have posted in one of them - I forget which one - that the BBC will NOT be streaming commentaries on the internet. I even emailed BBC radio five, just to make sure, and they came straight back and told me NO - NOTHING ON THE INTERNET!.

I have also trawled the web extensively to see if anyone, anywhere is streaming live radio commentaries - even on a subscription basis - but nothing. The BBC did it in 2002, but not this time round - I guess FIFA have banned it, for some reason. I am still looking to see if someone has the rights somewhere for the internet, but I'm not at all hopeful. There are plenty of texting services and news updates but no live commentary.

The best hope is that the Thai man who bought the rights here has a change of heart, as there's a lot of farang residents and tourists who are very pissed off. (There was a very long letter in the Bangkok Post about this). I wouldn't have thought it would cost that much.

the only other idea so far is to get someone to turn on the radio 5 commentary in England and Skype it over, and relay it on speakers connected to a Skype phone here. The quality wouldn't be much cop, and I don't know anyone who would do that for me in the UK. In any event - a big hassle.

Anyone else got any bright ideas?

Incidentally, it might be an idea if we all used the same sub- forum to discuss this - ie the World Cup forum. More members and maybe more ideas. :o

Hi Aaron - sorry for the delay , I've been out of town.

Click on "Thailand Forum" at the top of this page

Then scroll down until you get to "Sports, Hobbies & Activities forum".

Just below this , you will find a sub-forum - "World Cup 2006". Click here, and a whole new world will open up before your very eyes. :D
