Clarke out for 1 4/156 Bring on the rain

Edit

Smith for a duck 5 down

sad.png

How quickly it all happens.

1/126 to 5/156

Australia's lack of batting depth exposed against a decent bowling attack.

If Haddin and Rogers can stick around till stumps we may be saved by rain tomorrow

Since his hundred against the poms in Adelaide on 5/12, Clarke has averaged about 20 in 14 innings.

Wonder if his mind is on the game these days?

He doesn't seem focused with his batting at all does he? Two relatively soft dismissals for Clarke this Test

His on field Captaincy, field placing, bowling changes have been good though.

The extra half hour taken. Immediate wicket with Harris gone. AUssies 8/209

Disappointing capitulation by the Aussie batsmen this test.

Certainly the South African bowlers have got a hell of a lot more out of this wicket than the Aussies did

David Warner fined $2880 for ball-tampering comments

South Africa's ire at David Warner's ball-tampering slurs is likely to be soothed by the ICC's decision to fine the Australian opening batsman over his comments.

The hope of South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee that the world cricket governing body would punish Warner for his comments, which involved questioning how the home team's bowlers had achieved significantly more reverse-swing than Australia's in the second Test, was fulfilled on Thursday morning local-time when the ICC delivered its verdict over Warner's controversial radio interview in the aftermath of that Test in Port Elizabeth.

The 27-year-old accepted the proposed penalty of 15 per cent of his match fee - $2880. He could have been fined up to 50 per cent.

Australia 1/117 in the first session. Australia scoring at a rapid clip of over 4.5 an over and have rarely looked troubled. Basically a dismantlement by Warmer

Warner not out 75 off only 73 balls, his 13th test 50

Doolan not out 13 off 42

Aussies now 2/147 with Warner on 91 and Doolan out for 20.

Does anyones else think that Watson should bat at 3 and have Doolan

at 5 or 6?

I was wondering where to put Doolan, getting out to that shot, after the hard work getting settled in. He slowed Warner right down by not being able to turn over the strike. Makes sense like you suggest. Move Watson to 3, Clarke at 4 (which he is this test, Smith then Doolan.

Marsh must have considered himself lucky to be chosen for the series. Then having scored a good 100, he must consider himself unlucky to be dropped for Watson.

Marsh did himself no favours by only lasting 3 balls in the last test.

At least Doolan occupied the crease but like we keep saying, we're

a few batsment short.

Aussies 3/331 at stumps scored at a good rate. Steyn in doubt to bowl again

as well.

Good to See Warner get some runs in the first innings. Him and Rogers are turning

out to be quite a decent opening pair.

Would like to see us make 450+ and put them in again.

Australia well on top

Clarke not out 92

Steven Smith Not out 50

Warner was brilliant for his 135 and when he was dismissed all eyes were on Clarke though and what a workout Clarke copped from Morkel. Hit in the head, the arm, the hands, taking his eye off the ball and being whacked. Oldcroc mentioned it last Test, but Clarke seemed to have his mind elsewhere recently.

He battled through and started to find some confidence, playing some shots and building a good partnership with Steven Smith. Hopefully the turnaround innings for Clarke.

One of the great things about having Warner there scoring quickly (1st innings century!) is the run rate. The other guys got bogged down, but we still finished the day at 3.76 per over.

DO you think Australia is likely to declare?

I'm not sure.

Next in is Haddin and he's out of form.

I'd like to see us bat the first session and then maybe

another hour and get 500 maybe.

A lot of variables. Will we get bowled out if we lose a quick

wicket or two? Is the pitch offering any assistance? Will Steyn

Bowl?

Looking forward to an intriguing days play.

Clarke likely to declare first thing in the morning?

You'd think so.

Maybe Clarke might bat for 40 minutes or so this morning.

Unless one of the fast bowlers rip through them early, it

might be hard to get a result.

I think SA would be happy with a drawn series.

I'd like to see Clarke bat for one over then send South Africa in. That might annoy them a bit.

Unlikely Clarke would hang around just to get another double century...or is it?

Could Lyon be the difference this match? Id personally doubt it, but my judgement concerning Lyon could be biased

An aggresive overnight declaration from Clarke.

I think SA are more conservative and would've tried

to bat the Aussies out of it.

SA 2 for 49. One more before lunch would be nice.

Graham Smith has announced his retirement after this test.

Claims he has been thinking about it for some time, since ankle surgery last year.

I guess it has nothing to do with his inability to score significant runs this series?

How many more runs are Australia wanting to score?

Hard to say. Would depend on how fast Australia score today, weather forecasts, time left compared to runs ahead, pitch condition and other factors. Maybe about 450 in front.

Can't understand why he didn't enforce the follow-on. If they'd gotten a couple of late wickets, and with a night for the bowlers to rest, I think the yarpies would have rolled over. Now excess time may be wasted trying to work out how many runs are enough.

It's an early start for day 4, making up some overs for the rain delay on day 2.

Was good to see Warner cracking a few early in the second innings. The difference between him facing Morkel and Rogers facing Morkel was remarkable. Looked like Watson has been moved up to #3 also, so could be an entertaining session.
