'Protest financiers' list brings angry denials, includes deceased executive
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- SAHA PATHANAPIBUL chief executive officer Boonchai Chokwatana denied yesterday that he helped fund the anti-government movement led by the People's Democratic Reform Committee.

He said those who included him on a list of alleged protest financiers intended to intimidate him.

In an interview with Spring News, Boonchai said he learnt about the accusation two weeks ago.

"I am not surprised nor frightened because I did not do it. They blindly put my name on the list. They [the PDRC] just buy my goods. Is that called funding the protest?" he said.

He said a well-wisher called him and told him about the accusation. He had never contacted the government or anyone else to inquire about the matter, nor had money been extorted from him.

"Sahapat is a politically neutral company and we have never been involved in shady deals nor depended on politicians. The PDRC has never asked us for any help," he said.

"I guess they [his accusers] do all this only to intimidate us against funding the protesters. This tactic could be the government's self-destruction because by doing this Suthep [Thaugsuban, the PDRC leader] will win more supporters. People who don't want to help protesters but are blamed would now want to side with the protesters. They [the government] should find political allies and not act [imperiously]," he said.

CMPO director and caretaker Labour Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung said he was not perturbed by reports that Saha Pathanapibul and the Charoen Pokphand Group - also reportedly named in the list - could sue him.

Also on the list of over 50 suspects produced by the Centre for Maintaining Peace and Order (CMPO) is the name of the deceased co-founder of Red Bull, Chaleo Yoovidhya.

Chalerm responded also to reports that the CMPO had erred by including the late Chaleo Yoovidhya, co-founder of energy-drink giant Red Bull, on the suspect list, saying he knew that Chaleo had died.

Chalerm denied reports that the Pheu Thai Party stopped him from revealing the names of protest financiers, saying no one could stop him because the PM had given him the authority to make the decision. He also dismissed reports he would be sacked as CMPO director.

Meanwhile, Anti-Money Laundering Office secretary-general Pol Colonel Sihanart Prayoonrat said the CMPO would today reveal the names of 58 suspects and three others allegedly funding the anti-government movement.

Sihanart said however the revelation could be delayed to not later than next Monday. He said of 136 names, 58 people had been charged over funding the PDRC protest. Three others had not been charged but police had solid evidence they had helped finance the ongoing protest.

Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tarit Pengdith said the CMPO had not leaked the names of suspects to any group but admitted that some names appearing in the media matched the names on the CMPO list.

The list has not been published yet. The fascists are getting very worried and trying to muddy the water by making up sham lists.

Finally there is proof of an afterlife, a dead man is apparently funding the protest.

Tarit should be careful, not only may he be sued in this life, now he has to worry about the next.

DSI's Tarit contradicts your statement in the OP.

"Department of Special Investigation (DSI) chief Tarit Pengdith said the CMPO had not leaked the names of suspects to any group but admitted that some names appearing in the media matched the names on the CMPO list."

This does not contradict what I said, Tarit says that there some names in common with the real list and the sham list published by the fascists.

Even Suthip knows that you have to put a little truth in the big lies.

If PDRC buys normal goods at retail price from shops/distributors, surely that should be OK (otherwise the noodle vendors will be in trouble).

But buying at an usual discount or even for free, then that is aiding. As is getting large money donations.

Even for donations - DSI have to distinguish between true donations (aiding), and forced donations (protection money, threats by PDRC).

And DSI should only publish what can be proven, or they will get sued.

There is no offence in financing any protest movement unless it has been outlawed by Government or the UN, DSI seems to have just a little bit to much junta styled inclinations and policies , to whom we attribute this we can only guess, Thai people need to remember that a Democracy like Thailand's will always be under the spot light, DSI gestapo tactic's do nothing to instil investment confidence in Thailand , as you could very well be under investigation, with out any come back, DSI needs to be pulled back into line. bah.gif

They branded the reds terrorists and that didn't stop the money. However, it can't be legal to.fund the overthrow of the constitution.

That would be unconstitutional

If you can't find any bad or crucial evidence against them, just repeat 'fascist' again and again.

The bad part is Tarit naming deceased individuals...discrediting the thugs you cheer for.

No shame in funding a demonstration against an oligarchy anyhow. Something to be proud of, isn't it?

Even being dead isn't enough, to get one's name off the DSI's list, Oh My Budda ! facepalm.gif

Yay for Red Intimidation Investigation ! rolleyes.gif

A person can provide funding before he dies, or can leave a bequest, or an estate can donate on behalf of the deceased.

The alleged list is in respect to donors. If you picked your nose yesterday, and you died tomorrow, would it mean that you did not pick your nose?

How dare you call Tarit a fascist and his list a sham - Chalerm would be very disappointed in you.

And as for Suthep knowing you have to put a little truth in a big lie - Well he probably learned that for our dear finance minister.

I do not see the problem with people ,companies, uncle Tom Cobbly and all,

supporting PDRC,after all its not a terrorist movement, but I am sure the DSI

are working overtime to try and make it so.

Has the Government passed a law saying it is illegal to show support and

provide support for the PDRC ?, next it will be Save the Whales,Greenpeace,

etc, etc, in fact anyone or group the wants to see change, FOR the good.

Why was the backer (who everyone knew ,letter T ) who funded the burning

of Bangkok, extreme violence, and mayhem, not be brought under the same law,

Oh ! yes they are Reds and seem to get away with everything, the PDRC are

like pussycats compared to the Mongal hoards dressed in Red that ravaged

Bangkok.

regards Worgeordie

It will be very interesting to see the source of the funds. Are these personal contributions? Company funds? Are the funds from listed companies? is shareholders money involved? ( including non voting B shares held by foreigners?). Is this cash or in- kind or both? This will be fascinating to watch.

Anyone have a copy of this alleged list. A lot of talk of people named on a list so someone must have seen this list. It is all rumours at the moment so pointless arguing about something that has never been seen. People talk about the tooth fairy but has anyone actually ever seen her?
