Parking crackdown a failure

PATTAYA:--The latest attempt to solve Pattaya’s Beach Road traffic problems has been as short-lived as usual. Local officials from Banglamung District and City Hall had led a New Year campaign to force baht buses, taxis and tour buses to use only the 17 yellow stop zones located along the recently widened thoroughfare which borders the beach on one side and popular shopping, hotel and entertainment venues on the other.

However, most transport utilities have been ignoring the latest crackdown and there has been little evidence of police citing drivers of illegally-parked vehicles or challenging anyone double parking or stopping in forbidden red-and-white marked areas. Traffic jams are particularly common on weekends, often caused by tour buses stopping near the Central Pattaya Road intersection. Many business owners along Beach Road said they had seen no difference in the traffic chaos. One souvenir shop vendor, Aof Sriboon, said, “Actually the problems seem to be worse and we even have cars and lorries parking for hours in the yellow areas

NIce suggestion to call 1337 if you see someone double parking or parking illegally. The police see it and do nothing about it, what chance even if you can get through to someone on the 1337 line of them doing anything about it? A more useful number would be one where you could send a photo of an illegally parked vehicle, showing the number plate, from your phone which would enable them to fine the wrongdoers without ever having to get off their backsides!

I can just imagine what would happen if an illegally parked car, sees you taking a photo of his licence plate! Besides, it would take two hours for the police to get there, and also if your not dead already, end up spending a few days in court, testifying, then you will be dead!

Thais have no respect for the road laws, so is anyone really surprised here ???

It has nothing to do with respect for the road laws, it has everything to do with respect for other drivers and people.

But most could not care less of the consequences and stop or park where ever it suits them best. The fact that they are blocking the road, or creating traffic chaos does not bother them at all, as long as their own needs are met

So what would the car do?

What are they trying to do? Get people killed?

Sure spalpeen......they reduced the number of locations where pedestrians are killed by at least 50% and besides that, the deadly pedestrian-accidents can be easily found by just heading for the green or orange flickering pedestrian-crossing-lights.
