Hoping for some advice as my missus can't get any sense out of Air Asia. We are planning a holiday to Bali. Her Thai passport expires on 1 November 2014. We are planning to fly on 28 April and return to Thai @14 May. On date of travel out her Thai passport validity will be 6 months and 2 days. Returning to Thai her Thai passport validity will obviously be less than 6 months. Will this satisfy Air Asia? All indication I have found is the requirement is: over 6 months validity on date of travel (outbound). Thanks for any response.

Additionally I understand she and I (Brit) can get tourist visa on arrival?

Thanks

Don't know about the visa on arrival.

The way I understand it is that the country of destination requires the 6 months validity for foreigners entering the country.

Thailand can hardly refuse entry to one of it's own citizens.

That's not the issue, also Thailand does not require 6 months validity for entry visa exempt.

But: this a Air Asia policy, irrespective of destination and nationality, which she can not meet for the return flight. So to be sure I would get her a new passport.

Don't even think about it, this is Air Asia we are talking about.

This was my experience with them from Bali I posted last year.

" Flew into KL from Langkawi, had onward booking to Bali.

Got to gate for Bali Flight 45 mins late, closed, sent me to customer services. Got there, nothing they could do.

AA. " Sorry Sir, flight has boarded."

Me:" OK I'll have a refund then for my return flight to Bali"

(I was taking it easy, in all honesty I was regretting I had left Langkawi as was the Mrs and we had our eyes on a return flight )

AA. "Sorry Sir, we don't give refunds if you fail to catch your flight"

Me. "You'll refund this one, it was your flight from Langkawi that was over 2 hours late."

AA. "one moment Sir"...checks the screen..." Your in luck Sir, the flight is delayed I can check you in from here and help you through passport control"

Took the flight, went to Bali.

Turned up one week later at Denpasar airport for our flights to Singapore, hit the desk 4-5 minutes late, 100% my fault, time miscalculation, taxi problems.

"Sorry Sir, flight is closed"

Left wife at desk, went to Garuda desk, they had seats available, went back to AA desk to collect bags and told wife we were going to fly Garuda. AA asked me how much, I replied without thinking. They then offered me a price about 10% off what I had just mentioned. I'm a fairly calm type of person and just made certain motions with my fingers.

We boarded our Garuda flight, scheduled to take off some 70 mins after the AA flight which still had not boarded.

If anyone tries to tell me that AA don't take every opportunity to screw you over I will say your full of bs and one day you'll get your come uppance. "

Now of course it's totally different with you but consider these scenarios. The flight is overbooked, they look for someone to bump, guess who is first choice ? The flight is full and they have people waiting to buy tickets, your first in line again.

If you are going to fly Air Asia you play it by the rules, their rules.

Thanks for the replies. She got through to someone at AA finally (someone not reading a script off a screen); they confirmed our plan is fine.

You would really go for that ? I mean they won't be with you at the check-in at Denpassar will they ?

Sure there are probably others wondering why not just renew the passport, why take the chance?
