Do I need a re-entry visa?

Featured Replies

I am here for nearly 7 years.

My yearly retiree visa expires on 7 April 2014.

Going to Cambodia for a short trip to see Angkor and PP. This is not a visa run.

Returning back on 6 March 2014.

Any pro/cons paying for a re-entry about 1000 Bt. ???

I think if I am admitted free (Australian Passport) and get free 1 month visitor stay there are no incentive.

But I may be wrong? Or are the freebies not on anymore?

Thanks for a definite knowledgeable advice.

If you have an extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon retirement you obtained from immigration you must get a re-entry permit or your extension will no longer be valid when you enter without a re-entry permit. The re-entry permit will be valid until 7 April and that is the date your permitted to stay stamp will be when you enter.

If you had a multiple entry visa from an embassy or consulate you would not need a re-entry permit.

It would be best if you paid the 1000 baht and got a re-entry permit.

If you leave without one your permission to stay will end on the day that yopu leave. When you come back in on March 6 you can then get a visa exempt entry, free, but that will have to be converted to a Non-O at immigration before you can extend for 1 year. The cost of the Non-O conversion id 2000 baht, you will have to do it with at least 15 days remaining on your permission to stay and will require 2 bank letters, one for the conversion and one for the extension which must be done during the last 30 days of the Non-O permission to stay that you will get when you do the conversion.. It's cheaper and easier to get the re-entry permit.

Thanks, guys.

I will get a re-entry. Not a big deal. And not worth the complications for me.

And as an Australian you would only get 15 day visa exempt not a 30 day visa exempt by land.

If you take one step outside the Kingdom without a re-entry permit, and then come back, you are now just a 15 day bum, if that. I found out one time the hard way. On the plane outbound, about the time the captain turned off the seat belt sign, I had the thought, 'Hey, I forgot to get one of those re-entry things. Hope I'm not in trouble...' It was misery going through all those hoops again to get a new retirement visa. (Yeah, I know there's no such thing as a 'retirement visa', it's shorthand.)

And in most cases the thing you're referring to is not a visa. I guess calling a banana a pear is shorthand too since it takes fewer letters to write.

Actually..its 30 days for most of us nowadays, fly or land border....

Not worried about all the paperwork/visas/overnight hotels/extensions/proof of income.

Love travelling....and mix in a few multi entry visas to break it up. Just returned from Laos (from Nong Khai) for the fourth time...and now flying to the Philippines for a few weeks.
