Would you have liked to have been raised in Thailand then returned to your home country?

Featured Replies

I'm not referring here to a situation where you would be raised as a Thai, but imagine you would have all the western comforts, education at an international school and have a western lifestyle and family. What kind of advantages and problems, if any, would you have adjusting to the society in your home countries?

Depends on the subculture you return to - flower from the hothouse dumped into the cold cruel ordinary world, sure major adjustments needed.

Transferring to an elite ivy league school or an investment banker job, not so much.

If the home environment has a lot or racism, anti-achievement popular culture, serious violence, rampant drug use then they're better off growing up in the IS environment here.

Great advantage to that.

In fact I've met a few of these people.

They have lived in both countries for their whole lives.

They are pan-cultural.

They kick @$$.

cant talk about being raised as a Thai, but I was raised in another country and went "home" after nearly 25 years of not being there, with the full intent of setting up my life there ended up hated the f*kcing place, lasted 18 months, packed up and moved somewhere else.

So to me "home" is where I grew up...not the "mother" country
