Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Going for my non 0 marriage extension this week. I will take the following,

1 ' pictures of myself (2)

picture of me and wife outside house showing number of house. picture of us inside house.

Map to my home

Bank books showing 400,000 baht in bank for at least 2 months

Another bank book showing funds for living expenses with regular deposits and withdrawals

Letter from bank stating I have had the necessary funds (400,000) in my accounts for at least 2 months

marriage certificate with recent date on it. necessary fees.

I will fill in forms when I get there. The one online is different from the one they have there. I will obviously dress well and take wife with me.

Have I forgotten anything?

Thanks for your input. wai.gif

This is why I think that a retirement option is easier for an old man like me.

The advantages are only (sic) 400,000 Baht, and you can have a work permit.

OK, a retirement extension needs twice the cash available, but done and dusted, no 30 day provisional before the final OK or possible visits to see you at a later date.

For me, I would not need a work permit as I believe that work is the worst four letter word ending in K in the English language LOL

However, it would be nice if Thai Immigration gave a reciprocal visa to equal the one my wife has in Europe.

Five years from the date of issue, no 90 day reports or indeed any other kind of report, no need to show cash in the bank, visa fee €10.40 once every five years. She can come and go as she wishes, with or without me and can work if she wants to without any more paperwork. Can send any amount of money out of Europe without questions or restriction. Can travel to any other European country in the Schengen area without more paperwork or cost.

Does anyone have a clue as to why you need to make a yearly trip to the amphur to get a freshly dated copy of your Kor Ror 2?

To be sure you have not gotten divorced. You could not get a Kor Ror 2 if you were no longer married.

The 6 month number may not be correct becasue some immigration offices may want it to be within 30 days.

My wife gets ours just before we go for the extension.

They are easy to get at any Amphoe for a cost of 20 baht.

I applied a non O marriage visa last month at Sriracha immigration.

They told me I had to bring 2 witnesses to be interviewed whom know myself and my wife which we did. Not sure if this is the norm for all immigration offices though as it took me by surprise.

For a first extension that is normal, sometimes they will visit you at home and/or talk to your neighbours.

Some immigration offices do that instead of a home visit for the first extension (or if first extension after moving) because of a lack of manpower or because you live a long distance from the office.

For my first extension we were given a letter in a sealed envelope after the application was accepted to take to the local police requesting them to confirm we were living together. We got one from the police chief and two officers that knew us to take back to immigration. Since then no checks or letters needed.

I'd like to give a heads up that pertains only to this time of year.

The stipulation for the 400,000 baht is not to be in the account for 2 months, but for 60 days.

February has only 28 days...

(Yep, it almost made a difference for me last year...)

# one.- The right wife on your side. Congratulations from Sisaket and Ubon.-wai2.gif

Interesting. Immigration must have let me slide last year, because I used my KR2 from 2012. We're headed to the amphur next week so I'll pick other one up for the annual extension visit next month. Thanks for the insight. That makes sense.

Also, can anyone clue me in on this. My friend goes to Laos every three months to get a new O visa, he has never had to show any money at all

Also, can anyone clue me in on this. My friend goes to Laos every three months to get a new O visa, he has never had to show any money at all

He probably has a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage which requires border runs every 90 days for a new entry.

Unless he is actually going to Laos for new non-o single entry every 3 months.

And extension of stay allows you stay in the country for as long as you want by doing a new extension every year and just making reports to immigration every 90 days.

no he goes every single 90 days and tells me he has never been asked for any financial proof

You don't have to show funds for a non-o visa in Laos. Either or a single entry or multiple entry visa.

I explained the difference between a visa and an extension.
