Hi, I have had my bike plate stolen (or it has miraculously fallen off). I have reported it to the police and they have given me a copy of the report in case I get stopped for no plate.

My bike is registered in another family members name as I did not have a work permit/substantial visa at the time when I bought the bike, do I need to take my family member with me to the DLT in order to get a new plate as they are still the registered keeper or can I just take all the docs (plus their passport etc)??....and does anyone know what the process for this is? I am based in Pattaya.

Thanks in advance.

Not what the guy at Kawasaki said, he said I must have a work permit or a letter of residence..........and when I went to immigration they didn't want to give me a letter of residence on my tourist visa.

Lost my plate off the bike a few years back and whilst I cannot remember the docs needed, I must warn you that it takes a very long time to get a replacement. I think I had to wait around 2 months!!!!

To be honest I do not know the point of law for this but I would not take the word of the guy at Kawasaki on this matter.

A lot of the vehicle dealers in Thailand don't even know their own product never mind the Thai law.

In the past there have been a lot of posts on Thai Visa where a main dealer has given out incorrect advice on either the ownership or registration of vehicles.

If you went to another Kawasaki dealer, the chances are that their advice would be different from the first Kawasaki dealer.

The only way that you would find out for sure is by asking at the motor vehicle registration center.

The guy at Kawasaki is correct.

You need either a letter of residence or workpermit or yellow housebook, plus of course passport with valid visa.
