Happiness and love are the important matter – however your case seems rare in Thailand.

So your Thai wife, who is a teacher, is the bread winner of the family?

That must suck for you, especially when you go back home for family get togethers. I couldn't even imagine. How do you hold your head up infront of your parents, for example?

"Yeah, my wife from a developing nation works really hard, and takes care of me". That would be a tough one for me to explain.

Who sold you all that insecurity? One of the partners in a marriage has to be wealthier than the other--at least at the beginning. After that, many true marriages result in both having the same wealth.

So your wife makes, what…$600 a month as a teacher and you make less? You come out here and publicly state that? Why would you not return to school and educate yourself into a money making career?

You do realize you can make a starting wage of 200,000 baht per month living in Bangkok and commuting to work for Cathay Pacific as a pilot? Flight school and a few years at a local airline…its not that hard. But if you look the way you do in your picture and can't change your current work ethic (i.e. extreme laziness), better stick with your teaching gig - you'll never cut it with the big boys.

Yes you are odd but probably better off.

Those with girls 20+ years younger hanging onto them often suffer from "Adonis syndrome"

and are at high risk of the gold digging side effects.

my thai wife is 10 years younger than me,

if you are happy and satisfied with her, and both of u feel matched.. it dosen't really that big matter,

basically, for men age usually to be elder than the wives, but it is not a standard,

enjoy your life man and be happy with your family, and be sure that whatever idea or topic you may ask, it will be always a controversial debate, never expect to get all responses in you favoure,

Good luck

My wife is 5 years older than me. We are both still young though. Im mid 30s and she's late 30s so 5 years doesn't really mean that much. She is upper management at a large multinational company and makes about the same as me. Having been raised and educated in the UK and Switzerland I doubt she would be considered a "real" thai by most resident TV "expert" lurkers.

If she is really so successful, what is she doing with you? No offence but someone as you describe does not need a farang guy that will make her look like a bargirl in the eyes of most conservative Thais. Its all about appearances here and a white dude with a Thai girl doesn't look normal (unless of course she's a bargirl and then its expected). Not racist, just saying.

I would write a meaningfull reply but it's obvious you have no personal experience in the upper echelons of society.

I have heard there is a new market in older western ladies doing trips to Thailand looking for younger men.

Shock horror!....stop the bus Beryl!

It has worked for a couple of generations of Western men.

No reason it cant work for generations of western women.

He might just be happy with his lot in a world of deluded ambition - we're all just smoke up the chimmey at the end. If you are enjoying the ride, well that's as good as it gets.

Almost a midget; 5'5" :) But the great thing is during WWII (some of you might have first hand recollections), hydraulic controls were invented so you no longer had to be Hercules to drive the damn thing. Big boys figure of speech; I meant study hard, get out of the Issan village mentality and work hard for a living. Not that hard….millions do it every day.

I always hear the guys…well, if you're happy, so what. Well, your offspring (or the Thai man's you're supporting) might appreciate more in life than what 20,000 baht a month gives; perhaps like an education that gives them a few more options than a cinderblock shed in the village to watch the traffic go by.

Who the hell are you to judge?! One thing I can say about TV, there are A LOT of people just bumming around trying to make a stink. Do you know the mans circumstances? if Yes, feel free to open your mouth if not, I reckon you keep it shut....

There is a large pool of single Thai women in their 30s that for some reason or another are single.

Thai guys don't want them, but we western guys aren't all that bothered.

Essentially all we foreigners are fishing in the same pool.

Not because they want us, but because they have few other options in life.

It isn't really that hard to understand.

Damn good point

When you get married, anyone, anywhere, you have to think long-term...10, 20 years down the road, heck 30 years.

So, when she's 50, you'll be 40, ie. your eyes will be all over the 25 year old cuties who are EVERYWHERE here....good luck with that situation.

Seriously though, love is all that matters :)

You will save a fortune on viagra in comparison to other TV members. That is why you are getting all the hostility.

Actually, one could argue precisely the opposite too...

What are you saying? "You will NOT save a fortune on viagra in comparison to other TV members. That is why you are NOT getting all the hostility."

OK, agree not literally precisely the opposite.. The proposed, rather crude, counter-argument would be: The older gf/wife, the more need for viagra... Hence the alleged hostility would be due to other reasons.

I got lucky with a good family...I paid the Sin Sod and the parents gave it back to me! A great family one in a million never asked me for ANYTHING...but the fact that my wife and I are both 25 years old probably has a lot to do with it

Ah…no. Its called normal. Normal Thai families have no need for your money or support. They marry in their mid 20s and have good jobs. You never got lucky at all. You only did what millions of other young adults do every year. Why would they need anything from you anyways? My dad retired as an airline Captain….would he now go around peddling for dam_n handouts from his children's' spouses now as they seem to relish so much in Issan?

Its only the fact that so many TV posters are retirement age, married to destitute Issan Thais with another's man's spawn and limited education, then they decide to buy the cow and move to the farm. That's not normal; its called perverted and allows older men to hook up with younger girls in a third world country.

Sorry if this hurts the grandpas here but it had to be said. This skewed reality I see everyday is like some sick Twilight Zone episode.

ouch

heh, no... one of the many reasons I live in Thailand is because I can't stand that type of thing in the West, and it doesn't really exist out here.

Could you really just lay around the house all day, while a Thai woman hauls ass at her job, and takes care of you financially? There's no way I could do that. That's not me being insecure. That's me being a good person, and owning up to my responsibilities.
