PM inspects water situation in Mukdahan

MUKDAHAN, 7 March 2014 (NNT) – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has observed the water level in the Mekong River in the northeastern province of Mukdahan while saying collaboration will be made with neighboring countries to conserve water in the river.

After paying a visit to Sakon Nakhon province on March 6, Ms Yingluck today continued her trip to nearby Mukdahan, where she paid respect to sacred images and inspected the Indochina Market located on the bank of the Mekong River, adjacent to the Second Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. From there, she took the opportunity to assess the water situation.

The premier was briefed by the Mukdahan governor that the water level in the Mekong River was still one meter higher than the same period last year, which should be sufficient for consumption throughout the current dry season, whereas the amount of water in other local sources was standing at about 65% of the total capacity. A contingency plan has also been prepared by the province should the drought condition intensify.

As a response, Ms Yingluck encouraged local officials to manage water resources effectively in order to ensure enough supply for the residents. She added that she would instruct the Water and Flood Management Commission, the National Economic and Social Development Board and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss with nearby countries about measures to use water from the Mekong River in the most efficient way possible.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting on the local water situation before boarding a flight back to Bangkok.

Quite the turnout for the PM as thousands came to wish her well. This is a more appropriate photograph

And this is her from earlier in the week Udon Thani. Again, thousands of well wishers. According to the naysayers of TVF, she isn't supposed to be popular anymore and the people have turned against her. Looks like more supporters than Suthep has under his tent in Lumphini. She's obviously got quite a connection with the people, and their support for her is obvious. It's quite amazing to see the emotional bond so many have with her.

And it's this kind of thing that keeps the ex-prime minister from meeting with the NACC ? So she looks at water and tells officials to do an efficient job. Big deal.

She is not the ex PM. That would be Abhisit. Suthep is an ex DPM. The always dignified and beloved Yingluck is still the PM of Thailand as per the applicable law. No court has said otherwise. Making a false statement, won't get you your military dictatorship.

LOL Poo is a water inspector now. How pathetic.clap2.gif

She is not a water inspector. In her capacity as Prime Minister of Thailand, she came to meet with the Thai people who are suffering due to the drought situation. Her visit has obviously lifted the spirits of the locals and they came out in the tens of thousands to offer her their support. The Prime Minister is one with the people, and her compassion and concern for those who are of humble means is what sets her apart from Suthep. I am heartened that the Prime Minister has made the journey and met with those who depend upon decent weather conditions to eke out a living. We are fortunate to have her as Prime Minister and not some general.

Bless her.....the country is falling apart and she is only interested to inspect the water situation in Mukdahan.

Nothing wrong with that , also inspected the indochina market which must be at least the highlight of the day .then back in the car to the nearest airport

While normally this type of duty would be considered normal, given the current situation it is anything but.

The fact of the mater is that she is not in control of the government, and so is simply choosing to be elsewhere.

I suppose the final measure of her character and courage will be her reaction to being sentenced to prison. I'm afraid that you will be sadly disappointed.

WOW. Can't argue with that logic.

Maybe we can chose the next government by comparing photographs of the party leader with there supporters and see who has the most.

You should have seen the obvious connection this guy below had with his supporters too. More supporters than the eye can see.

They obviously turned up for only a few reasons:

1. Where is the money for our rice ?

2. How much we getting paid next time we vote ?

3. Free somtam for all

She wouldn't be there right now if there wasn't any trouble in Bangkok. Don't mistake her cowardice in running away from the problems here to her showing compassion.

That's earth, fire and water covered. She must be running out of things to inspect up there by now ... unless there's a wind problem.

That depends what they gave her for lunch!

Hovewer it's a good excuse for Puss in Boots to appear busy to try and delay her appearance at the NAAC

I hope she isn't campaigning.

My thoughts exactly.

The water minister, Agriculture minister, and all the other ministers are so busy the C-PM is having to cover all their work, as well as the defense meetings, all seem to be either in Issan or Chiang Mai. ???

GK, Please note that the mighty Mekong river is now at this time 1 meter ABOVE it's last year level. plenty of water for running off.

Near the Friendship bridge Nong Khai this time last year sand exposed and a beach formed with Pattaya style business done. River too high at the minute.

Very little crying in the N/E because of hardship--Drought/no water. What is all this compassion for the people , bleeding rubbish. normal time 3 weeks before April it is dry EVERY YEAR.

with the dubious status of the government and the PM, with elections still not finished, all such tours by 'unknow status' PM Yingluck can be seen as election campaign tours especially with the hordes of (red-shirt) voters well-wishers. Nice photo-ops, good for local consumption (by those who would anyway) and good for foreign consumption (those who don't know a thing anyway). "beloved by all", obviously.

In the mean time PM Yingluck inspects, looks at water, instructs and nothing new really. All the advise and instructs already being done, 'save water', 'coordinate', 'MoFA talk with other countries', etc., etc.
