Extending single entry O visa - what if I'm not in country for 30 day consideration reporting?

Now can anyone help me...

I have applied to extend my single entry O visa (I have a work permit as I volunteer) after being here for three months- I'm due to report to immigration in 30 days (as my application is under consideration) but it appears I might have to leave the country for 4-6 weeks for (vague) health reasons - mainly to get our one year old out of the pollution - does anyone know if immigration would be flexible about this, what the consequence would be or how I should approach this?

Also, as i'm on a single entry O visa, what happens if I leave the country and try to return in six weeks or so?!

Many thanks,

Mal

A single entry "O" visa is good for 90 days .

If you have applied and been accepted for an extension of stay it is possible to leave the country within the 30 days under consideration period providing a re-entry permit is obtained. It would be necessary to return before that 30 days expired.

It would appear therefore that you will need a new single entry O visa if you wish to return.

thanks for the info - do you happen to know if there's any flexibility if we arrive back a couple of days later than the reporting period? (with a fine perhaps) or would it be a a straight cancellation of O visa?!

If you return late your visa and re-entry permit will have expired. There is no flexibility.

Arriving without a visa will result in you being granted a 30 day visa exempt entry at best.

If you are going to "late" best obtain another "o" visa for which you will need the correct paperwork.

If you want to leave the country you must get a re-entry permit that will be valid up to your report date. Otherwise you will have to start all over again by getting a new visa and do the application again.

If you get the re-entry permit and enter after the report date it will mean starting all over again.

But to be clear, once you do get a yearly extension you could purchase a reentry permit at the same time.

Then you would be able to leave and stay our of the country until that one year extension ran out. if that's what you want.

Your exit permit is could for the period of your extension .... there is no limit on how long you can stay out of Thailand .... just be back in country before the extension expires.

And there is no requirement to do 90 day reporting unless you are in the country.

So you could be gone for a period of 3 months or more .... nobody would care as long as you returned before your extension had to be renewed.

Your 90 day reporting restarts once you return to Thailand .... you next reporting date is 90 days from the day you reenter Thailand (arrival date stamped on your entry card)

For that reason I recommend you don't leave until you get your yearly extension if it is at all possible.
