Importing computer Monitor from Korea to Thailand (Ebay) Taxes ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I consider buying a monitor on Ebay coming from South Korea (cheapest monitors i've seen so far).

I'm worried about the importing taxes... Do they apply in this situation?

Did someone had the experience before?

Can i be sure about one number (example : 27%, not more, not less) ?

Any thoughts?

Thanks :)

Actually i'm looking for a 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 resolution monitor.

I'm in Chiang Mai and can't find one of those here at a reasonable price....

I was in exatly same situration as you OP, wanted a super HD monitor from Korea but got cold feet in the end, import tax? is it pixel free? what if it brakes down and so on.

I ended up buying a Dell U2713HM from invadeit. I live in Pattaya and they are based in Hua Hin.

I had to pay direct into a bank account or pay extra 800 baht (if I recall correct) if paying with Paypal, so I choosed the bank account.

2 days later my brand new monitor arrived and no problems what so ever.

I e-mailed them and talked with them on the phone and it was all a very positive experince during the purchasing process.

I was going to do the same but paying into a bank account means (if I was in the country) getting off my butt and going to a bank or ATM to do it, or going thro a long winding process of adding them to my KBank online banking list of account receivers. I found it much simpler to go to another Thai shopping web site and just pay with my Thai virtual debit card and they offered free shipping as well. Unless Invade offers card payments, I will pass much as I like their service as I went to the shop once.

Considering how big your package will be, it will stick out like a sore thumb. They will definitely charge you tax. I'm assuming the monitor your after cost $300-400usd. I'm guessing 1,000 baht if your lucky but more like 2,000 baht, possibly even 3,000.

There is a good chance the koreans ship monitors in the original packaging and not double boxed, the packaging will probably state the content "led monitor"

The seller said that he could send the package as a gift... Would that change anything ?

Anyway, thanks for all your advices guys, very helpful ! :)

That wouldn't change a thing. In Thai eyes, you can buy monitors locally but you ordered from outside, even you declared as 50USD and gift. There will still be tax. It is just a matter of how much tax.

Like many others I was considering it too... but in the end I got scared of the Thai import tax (which from what I heard could be very little but also very big) and partially due to dead pixels problem.

Got a U2713HM too.

Honestly maybe it's worth the risk if you want to buy a 30" Korean monitor (what I was looking for, much cheaper than a 30" Dell), but for sure I would not consider a 27" Korean monitor over the Dell one.

I ordered it yesterday (30" indeed) from Korea.

I'll let you guys know how it went.

I had ordered a 27" monitor from Korea via Ebay before. Tax around 1500 baht. Still well worth overall.

I also had an Dell U2713HM too. Connectivity wise. Dell won without doubt.

But compare side by side, The Korea IPS won on Clarity, Color and Contrast. Text appeared sharper.

The anti-glare coating on Dell (even had reduces much compare to my U2412M) still somehow make it worse than Korea IPS.

How did you actually pay the taxes ?

Had to pay to the DHL man at delivery ?

Package went to a post office instead of your home and you had to collect it there and pay the taxes there ?

I asked seller to send using EMS. For EMS, the package will deliver by Thailand Post.

Postman will leave a note ask you to go collect at your local post office. Paid the tax and they will release the package to you.

Just received my 30" ! Korean seller used DHL (3 days from them to my door).

Taxes = 1340 bahts.

Very happy with my decision (so far...) biggrin.png
