webfact
Army condemns brutal killing of Pattani teacherBy Digital ContentNAKHON SI THAMMARAT, March 15 -- The 4th army region commander Sakon Chuentrakul today condemned the shooting and burning of a female teacher in Pattani, saying it was inhumane act.Ms Siripohn Srichai, was shot on Friday while she was riding a motorcycle to Tabingtingi school in Mayo district of Pattani where she worked.Lt Gen Sakon said that the attack has indicated that there were insurgent groups working in the three southernmost provinces, continuing to cause unrest particularly the attack against women.Gen Sakon said he believed the assailants were the same and the only group that continued attacks against women. He has also expressed condolences to the victim's family and stressed that he wanted to tell the people in the southernmost provinces that attempts to bring peace to the border provinces were hindered by groups who wanted to create misunderstanding between the public and authorities. As for the peace talks with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), Gen Sakon said that it was depended on the government's decision. thesetat2013
This article makes a point not said. Why is a Gen speaking out against such an atrocity. Hasn't YL said she cares about all Thai people? Did she only mean Northern Thai people? Doesn't YL care what happens to her public servants. Or is it just the ones that are pro Thaksin and PTP that she consoles and shows her outrage? What kind of leader would ignore such a brutal slaying of an innocent teacher on her way to school? A thai citizen at that. Yet! Days have passed since this occured and not a peep from her to show dismay, outrage, sympathy, or anything. Isn't the South still part of Thailand? That dead woman was not some soldier KIA. As a leader, even a caretaker leader shouldn't she show even a little? This is not the first time either she has held her tongue when she should be screaming out to the people, her people, her anger at such actions and heartfelt sympathies. Instead the local General has more feeling for the loss of a civilian. Amazing thailand where the only thing amazing is that people including the leader just dont care unless you are part of their clique. I am willing to bet that if the PM expressed sorrow about the incident, you would be finding something wrong with that also. This thread is not about the PM, and it is not about your political affiliations. it is about this poor girl that got killed for no fault of her own. I remember reading a news story a few weeks ago about a program to attract English teachers to the south and improve the English skills in that area. Not very likely IMO to have many takers. Aside from this poor girl and her family, the students that go with out a proper education are victims also.

Unfortunately for the security forces in the deep South they have about double the amount of deaths compared to the insurgents, I wouldn't call that out as the insurgents "running scared". Sadly the killing of teachers by the insurgents is a very cruel political statement.

The current and previous thai governments have been cowards not confronting Malaysia for their role in the aggression in the south. Malaysia has everything to gain and Thailand everything to lose on a split. What kind of stupid talk is this! Malaysia has no outstanding territorial claim to this area. There would little advantage in incorporating these poor and undeveloped areas into peninsular Malaysia. There has been no evidence that Malaysia is in any way fomenting or assisting the rebellion in the south of Thailand...no, that has all been done by the out of touch and incompetent Bangkok based bureaucrats who have administered the area for the past century.
