Marriage visa

Featured Replies

Hello to the forum.

I am 26 years old and living in Poland. I am considering moving to Thailand, because of the lady i know for about 10 years and the job wich allows me to work from other country. We wish to take a marriage. I ve tried to contact with thai embassy in Poland, but they don't reply my emails. I guess i will have to call them because there is really very little information on their website. I was also looking for informations on ministry of thai affairs and immigration bereau. I couldn't find there answers for my questions neither..

All the things i know aren't really confirmed in any "serious" site.

My plan is to take marriage in thailand, and as i ve heard i will get a 1 year visa after it without much afford. Mainwhile I'll rent a flat and open a new account in thai bank. As i ve heard i need to keep there at least 400 000 baht if i wish to apply for visa extend for another year. Later I've read that things have been changed a little, and now there must be monthly income of both me and wife at least 40 000baht. I has found that information on the website of thai embassy in London.

I have savings in my bank in Poland, more than 400k baht, my salary is about 1000 dollars in poland and my employe agreed for my remote work. Together with my future wife we can make 40 000baht monthly so it shouldn't be much of a problem.

If anybody could tell me if my plan has some chance to success i would be grateful. I will call the embassy later if i will get some more basic knowledge from You. Thanks in advance.

To apply for a 12 month extension in Thailand you need 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank or 40,000 Baht monthly income.

It has to be yours and not joint.

First you have to get married.

You should apply for at tourist visa before traveling.

Then after getting married you could apply for a change of visa status to a non immigrant visa entry at Bangkok immigration.to get an extension of stay. Or if not living near Bangkok it would be best to go to one of the nearby embassies or consulate and apply for a single entry non immigrant O visa based upon marriage.

The requirement so get an extension of stay based upon marriage is 400k baht in a Thai bank in your name only for 60 days or your income of 40K baht that is yours only (you cannot use your wife's income).

http://www.thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/49 its what i found..

" Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family)"

But 400k baht froozen in thai bank sounds easier. So i am happy if this option is still available.

So first step is to obtain tourist visa for 60 days, this will give me the time for marriage and to start banking procedure. I will need to make few visa runs to make the money stay in thai bank for at least 60 days. Than if everything will be all right i can receive the non immigrant type O visa.

I ve heard that it shouldn't be such a big deal to extend the non immigrant type O visa for the next years, is that true? I also remember about the every 3 month, confirnation of address in the immigration department.

The 20K and 40k baht numbers are standard for getting all visas at an embassy.

You only need to get a non-o visa once. After that you get extensions of stay at immigration,

If you get a tourist visa from the embassy it will give you a 60 day entry that can be extended for 60 days to visit your new wife if needed.

If you do the change of visa status at immigration the money just needs to in the bank. It does not have to be there for 2 months. The non immigrant visa entry you get will be for 90 days.

Then when you do the extension it needs to be there for 60 days.

Working even remotely may require a work permit. If you don't have one and get caught out. it might result in deportation.

Just saying

If your working in thailand which it sounds like you will be your suppose to have a work permit, that's the legal position, but the practical question is will you get caught doing it ?

Yes, I was going to mention this. But if you claim income from the work in order to obtain the extension then wouldn't it become obvious to Immigration that you are, in fact, working in Thailand?

He plans on doing his extension by showing money in the bank.

Foreign earned income would need to be proven by a letter from an embassy. Immigration will not accept income of any type without a work permit or that letter.

The post was very good and the answers should be helpful. I lived in Lithuania, border of Poland before coming to Thailand. Good Luck.

You knew this lady when you were 16? Just curious how old she is?

Good luck and best wishes (seriously).

Not if your fees are deposited in another country

Not necessarily, "work" could just be another way of saying "i am independently wealthy at 26" I know a few people who are younger than 30 and do not have to work another day in their lives thanks to the good graces of Mummy and Daddy...certainly not my situation but I don't judge or questions those whose it is. I understand this guy though, I am 25 and sometimes it's harder when you are younger, don't have a whole lot of money and are trying to make your life in Thailand...certainly much easier for the 50 something pensioner or foreigner who has a job with an international company in Bangkok....damn I'm eking out a living in Isan, wife as a translator, me doing private English lessons. (it is actually all starting to come together BUT Just got a work permit after a year and half of jumping through bureaucratic hoops, not sure if id do it again given the chance.

With my experience, just dont advertise what you do and you will be fine. Stick to clients outside of Thailand because if you piss someone off, that is an opportunity to get the boot. Or the unlikely but possible chance of a sting oppression to catch you in the act, but then again thats very rare being a designer. I am in a similar situation and have been here for 3 years now and im 30. But are you sure you want to get married so soon? Do you have to pay the family money to marry?

My advice is to first come here on tourist visa, then do a 1 year ED visa and take thai language class, whether you go or not is up to you, but that gives you a 1 year visa. Then after 1 year decide if you want to do marriage visa. You never know if there will be too big of a culture shock for you and getting married right away here might complicate your future later.

But if you do go the married route, you dont need financial documents if you apply for visa in Savanakhet Laos. Unless they tightened that up but it seems like people are still getting that no problem.

The OP is not even married yet. He cannot get a non-o visa until he gets married.

I may have missed something here, but is the wife to be Polish or Thai? Makes all the difference in the world.

is there a Polish consulate in Bangkok?

To marry a Thai - legally - you need an 'affirmation document' from Poland that confirms you are not married (or legally divorced), to be married at an Amphur. The affirmation has to be translated into Thai and then your wife-to-be can make an appointment at the local Amphur.

Then you have the religious ceremony and the associated costs...

Off Topic post removed.

you will need a workpermit and you need to get married first

Is it even possible to get a work permit for jobs done online?? If it is possible I can see it being really hard and probably quite costly

Oh my lord so many posts. The lady is almost 10 years older than me, shes thai. I was like 17een when i ve met her online. I visited her in Thailand, and she visited me in Poland. And yes i will pay her family, and costs of marriage. I won't pay them as much as i should, and the marriage wont' be big.. But they understand my situation, i ve talked with them. Actually she has only mom and brother.

I am considering the educational visa, when i will be in thailand. I ve received some info about it. It could help me a lot.

Do i need a work permission in thailand to get marry?

There is a polish Embassy in Bkk, they even replied my emails..

A work permit is not required for someone to get married.

please don't take this the wrong way BUT...Me thinks you might be jumping into this situation with a little bit of naivety based on the questions you are asking and the perceived insecurity...educational visa? are you planning on studying? Work permission to marry in Thailand??? what does that even mean??...Also she has visited you in Poland and you her in Thailand. I hope that means more than two visits in the span of ten years....take heed

The OP needs to give some very serious thought to the stated aims of marrying and living in Thailand

A small amount of savings are claimed and his stated personal income will not be sufficient to obtain an extension of stay based on marriage. If he attends school his savings will rapidly deplete. He also states he will "pay the family" and meet the cost of the wedding.

I would urge this young man to remain at home and visit Thailand once/twice a year.

People write opposing things under my thread so it kinda makes me confused.. I know that i don't need a work permission to take a marriage. the question has hidden irony. If You can't read between the lines don't write at all.. After what i ve read here, some people here know less than i know..
