Folks, if this incident happened in China, the situation would be the exact reverse: 10 Chinese beating on a Thai. So don't be so quick with inferences. This is an ASIAN thing, not a Thai thing.

The one thing I didn't understand, the coyotes are supposed to be molested by the regulars only?

Having said that, the fact that this establishment was not closed down and the owners arrested, tells you pretty much about law enforcement in Thailand.

They assaulted a police officer last week and they assaulted an innocent tourist yesterday.

The police have a problem finding them.

Any relations involved?

Wouldn't be surprized.

Hope Mr Au, will recover soon.

It was probably OK according to the Thai Government in that the assailants were red shirt trainees and they are protected by the government.

As always my advise is, stay away from bars and nightclubs frequented by Thai men (boys). Many will be on drugs, some will be armed, some of them are just looking for a fight (especially with a foreigner) and none of them care about your life, or their own.

(foreigners can be drunk idiots just like Thai men, but they rarely if ever carry weapons when going out in Thailand, and they very rarely beat you to death 10 against one)

very true sir. and it's rule nr 1 i tell friends who come overe here (and ending up in some local bar/karaoke/joint):

as soon as there is the slightest bad vibe or the slightest misunderstanding: pay, smile and LEAVE. it's striking how quick a couple of thai males can suddenly become savages....... it's not worth it.

a thai friend of mine (ex-bad boy) told me many thai men are afraid of farang. physically intimidated (we are bigger) but also afraid about our reactions (thainess vs farangness, unknown territory for them).

Maybe some proofreading is in order?

(name transcribed from Thai next) *text

Aranyapradesh sounds like somewhere in India, it's Aranyaprathet. (Although I'm aware that the Thai "prathet" has same origins as "pradesh".)

I was just going to say...sounds like the name of an Indian state like Aranuchal Pradesh. Aranyaprathet however is the name of the border town directly opposite Poipet, Cambodia. I am pretty sure that Thais wouldn't understand it if you said "I want to go to Aranyapradesh" so why can't they do a better job proofreading. In fact, just driving up to the region all the English language signs are correctly labeled: "Aranyaprathet".

each time i have gotten into a fight in thailand it has never been fair. but i hit first and i hit hard. until i see fear in their eyes, i dont stop. yes, they like to pick on tourist and the weak. its how the government and mafia trained them to behave. i have taken 5 a time while my falang friends stood there watching, like cowards. . thailand, like prison rules... take the big guy first then take the scariest looking one. .. they least expects it.

1. great friends u have

2. so u are what? a tourist or a weaky ?

3. u mean the big 1,68 m guy or u mean the big obese diabetes guy?

Look this could have happened anywhere, has nothing to do with being Asian or not. That's a ridiculous explanation that I don't accept...the race card shouldn't be brought up all the time.

In places like Sydney, Australia, gangs of youths often beat up innocent people for looking at someone's girlfriend or something else ridiculous like that.

And BTW in Kunming, China about 2-3 years ago a Thai was beaten to death by some locals at the infamous Kundu nightclub district (he might have been stabbed, but irrespective of the method of murder, it was gruesome), not sure what the reason was but yes, it can happen anywhere and as you have just suggested, the exact opposite (a Thai being murdered in China by numerous thugs) has occurred before.

I feel really sorry for this hapless tourist, but then again, this could have been avoided.

BTW who goes to a karaoke or whatever joint in a grubby boring border town like Aranyaprathet? The only reason to stay in Aran is if you arrive late either heading to Cambodia or coming back and you don't have transportation to get you further or don't want to travel into the night. After a one night stay you get up early and leave. I've stayed there once on my way into Cambodia and while it's better than Poipet, somehow I'd rather stay in Poipet and look around the casinos. Besides, heading into Cambodia you can make a much faster start the next day if you're already across the border rather than having to face busloads of Russian tourists heading into Poipet the next morning.

The lowest common denominator of almost every violent situation in Thailand is a Thai male, or a group of Thai males. The darker in color they are, the lower their job is, and if booze is thrown into the mix, the more chance for violence. So I try to avoid Thai males, especially in groups, based on exactly that.

Of course there are exceptions to that rule, but that is my general experience. Never had a problem with a sober, pale skinned, wealthy Thai with a respectable job.

You perhaps have spent far too much time hanging out with racist Bangkok based Sino-Thai elites who, since they control all media, like to portray most dasterdly characters as darker skinned ethnic Tais whilst portraying the more heroic characters as lighter skinned Sino-Thai or, more recently, as luuk khreungs. By the way, I have never had a problem with a sober, "dark skinned", wealthy Thai with a respectable job. In fact, I have had few problems with any Thais and I do spend most of my time in-country with ethnic Tais far away from the sino-centric environs of Bangkok.

But not too many of the respectable ones are there?

That is why you should never visit any venues where Thai men are drinking alcohol. The owners of the clubs refuse to install metal detectors to check for guns because they don't want to put off the high rollers who, of course, would not go anywhere without guns but even a lot of the young punks carry them too.

When I am fighting multiple assailants i use the traditional spinning roundhouse thingy kicky thingy, incapacitating all in one clean movement. I rather like to do it in slow motion, from multiple angles to make it look more impressive. It helps if they have mouths full of fake blood.

It seems like you make a habit of fighting. I wonder why? And I wonder why your friends stood and did nothing? Were they thinking 'Here he goes again'. It reminds me of an old Jerry Lewis film where he was advised by his football coach to 'Hit em hard. Hit em fast and hit em low!' As I recall. it didn't do him much good.

Typical Thai "Macho Gang" mentality. Even when they were told they had the wrong man, it was too late to curb raging anger hormones. Not a one of them would stand up to someone 1-to-1.

Punks, pure and simple.

and if the victim had hurt one of the little turds he would be in the slammer

You respond to something like this by punishing the young insects. Severely. I suggest a 10 year prison sentence. When the punks emerge from jail at the age of 29, they might be more reluctant to behave like baboons. We all know that zero justice serves no one, and nothing. It is simply cowardice on the part of law enforcement and the judiciary.

Early 1980, One evening, drinking beer in the Chief Petty Officer's Mess in the R.A.N. Establishment, HMAS CERBERUS, Victoria, we had a young Royal Thai Navy Petty Officer with us who was doing a training course 'down under'.

At one point in the evening some of the blokes asked him if he knew Kung <deleted>. (Asian = must know Kung <deleted> right?) It took him a while for him to catch on what they were talking about and when he did he said that he didn't do Kung <deleted>, then sounding very serious he said he did Kung Chae.

Everyone eagerly asked him to explain what Kung Chae was.

So with that he picked up a bar stool and adopting an aggressive stance held it over his head menacing the group with it and yelled KUNG CHAIR, Then broke into an almighty big Thai grin and laugh.

Brought the house down.

Why do all the other people just stand around and watch. Surely must have been a large crowd just watching. The audience r just as bad as the perpetrators. Cowards the whole lot.

Its because they want to stay alive or have an aversion to ICU. Anyone who gets into fight with Thais or interferes in a fight is an idiot.

How SAD but TRUE wai2.gif

I'm not going to say it does not happen in other countries, but what is it about Thailand and the constant mob beatings? Are all Thai men cowards of the highest order to constantly gang up on or two individuals and beat the living daylights out of them? What is going on in their minds to act so cowardly, I just don't get it. I saw the other post today here where a bunch of cowards mob beat a monk. Somethings wrong with this country when people feel they can continously act this way. They have a lot to learn.

Was Mr Au one of the golfing Chinese tourists that TAT is one pin in its hope on ? Maybe a lesson here, when in Thai night club Confuscius say " take 7 iron with you".

isn't groping normal in that kind of places?

Nope. Unless you want to end up like the poor Chinese guy.

Look but don't touch.

you have to pay extra for that

The media is such a strong tool ,but hulas it is not used to our good .

look at a thai soap ,after some false laughter the angry face start coming and than the shouting and fighting starts,

day after day the children see this (some also in real time in their family.)If this soap was filmed in a poor house and with no luxury, nobody would watch it !But thais are longing for this luxury ,these nice cars,clothes....but the only thing they are copying is the bad behavior( sadly they are not copying the clean streets without dogs and garbage bags.)

So after all those years ,this is the standard.

Instead the media should give an explanation for this behavior, like "look this dumb acting is the result of years of pedophile abuse to the son ,and that's why the son (daughter)starts shouting and behaving like an idiot. When showing youngsters in a fight ,explain that they do it because their father rammed them in the ass for years, and that this behavior is the result of this . So next time he will try to control his anger ,scared bystanders will think that he was a victim of a pedophile.

The media must connect a shameful image to stupid behavior and not glorify it .

Put big billboards next to the road with monkeys driving slow in the middle or right lane ,explane that this is what happens when monkeys drive in cars.If those driving in the middle "think" that everyone else looks at them as "monkey" .They will stop their stupid driving because they are scared to loose their face.

The media should use this loss of face thing as a weapon against stupid behavior and not glorify it.

Well said, but you're making a huge assumption...the local IQ and critical thinking here is what it is, the media can't change that.
