Red shirts demolish Army security checkpoint near NACC

BANGKOK: -- A group of red-shirt people demolished an Army security checkpoint near the National Anti-Corruption Commission head office Wednesday.

First Army Division Commander Maj Gen Wara Boonyasit said demonstrators led by the People's Radio for Democracy group demolished bunker and tent of the security checkpoint at noon.

As a result, the Army had to relocate the checkpoint from the spot, Wara said.

He said his division would instead deploy mobile unit to check security at the spot regularly.

Wara said the Army set up the checkpoint at the location to prevent assailants from firing M79 grenades at the NACC office.

NACC comes under M 79 grenade attack March 25, 2014

Armed men fired three M 79 grenades into the compound of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) Monday night, one striking at the deck of its building, and the other two missing and landing at the adjacent building of the Government Lottery Office instead.

somehow ineffective checkpoint it was, as grenades landed at nacc several times, the last time on monday night.

one went, another 199 useless bunkers to go

This one should be pinned so that people can't deny who started the hostilities.

Guess those reds couldnt get a good aim at the NACC whilst the army check point was there...

Remove it, problem solved... now clear line of sight to the NACC - expect more grenades and expect them to get closer to the mark.

Well This is something I would never believe could happen. FOOLS, now if you want to lose everything that the PM PTP stand for carry on because you reds are in for a bloody nose, Brain is needed to be turned on when you wake a sleeping giant.

You will be hunted down to the far corners of Issan, do you not realize the biggest army barracks are all over ISSAN.

An useless police force and an army that let their bunkers be overrun by Redshirt terrorists, and this we pay taxes for!

Er, the grenades that were aimed at the NACC were fired on Monday night, so obviously the unknown grenadiers were not put off by the presence of the army checkpoint that was there at the time. Despite what the First Division Army Commander maintains (and also despite your blatantly biased instant analysis and identification of the perpetrators)

Sad to see that even the Army now can not protect themselves from red attack

Can't wait for K. Yingluck's comment on this one as the defense minister

When did they set up the checkpoint?

Do you not realise that many soldiers in Isan are likely to refuse to fight against the reds if push comes to shove?

Look at the army's choice of units to suppress the 2010 crackdown. Look at how Prayuth has not launched a coup yet despite clearly wanting to.

This army is one of the biggest per population. If you think the percent of cry offs would make any difference your mistaken.

The crackdown should have been the police.

How do YOU know K.Prayuth clearly wants a coup ??? Time is Thailands friend, The courts etc.---But the reds are stupid if they think they can intimidate the Prayuths army.

Bet its a lot easier for them to fire grenades at the NACC now tho, eh?

Why else would they demolish the army checkpoint there? They are esculating to a major incident in the very near future...

All the sharpened bamboos in Thailand will not stop the army, you do not stamp on a river of army ants. Unless.

An useless police force and an army that let their bunkers be overrun by Redshirt terrorists, and this we pay taxes for!

How many unarmed soldiers do you think would have been at the check point ? 4 or 5 at the most.

How do you expect them to stop a mob of red thugs who turn up ?

They were right to move away and let the thugs have the bunker, if they hadn't they would have undoubtedly been beaten up and possibly killed.

These types have already shown they are ready to bash anyone who they think might oppose them, even monks.

This is just another provocation in Thaksins desperate moves to get the army to stage a coup.

Let the extremist section of the Red Brigade keep pushing their particular agenda. However remember that there comes a moment in time or action when there will be an action to lessen or contain the impact of those provocative actions.

All these moves are designed to provoke the military into action. It isn't working now ,or will it work in the future either. The military are indeed playing the game by the correct rules, nothing more nothing less

The command if needed will come from a high level and s a result of a collective decision to act as needed and then we shall see the true quality of the Red Shirt leadership as before when that leadership led so bravely from the back.

Remember that this time round the sponsor of the 2010 campaign isn't as effluent affluent as he was and many of those old pawns are still awaiting payment concerning other matters too. ''No money no honey.''

So this group of fascist street thugs have moved on from mugging monks. Good for them, bravo.

If I was in that bunker I would call for armed assistance. And why not retake the location from the red mob?

A bit over-dramatic today, aren't we?

The check point should be reestablished immediately. A public announcement should be made by K.P. that anyone trying to dismantle the checkpoint again will be prevented from doing so by any and all necessary actions by the army personnel stationed at the checkpoint. If these red idiots can not read between the lines then so be it.

The world is littered with 'extremists' usually exagerated when they are denied a voice they feel they deserve.

The true instigators of violence are often those who turn the deaf ear!

They will follow orders and if Prayuth wanted a coup it would have already happened.
