webfact
TripAdvisor ranks 8 Thai beaches among Asia’s top 25BANGKOK, 28 March 2014 (NNT) – Eight beaches in Thailand have been named by the globally renowned travel website TripAdvisor as some of the best in Asia, with three of them making it into the top 10.According to Chief Marketing Officer of TripAdvisor Barbara Messing, out of this year’s 25 most popular beaches in Asia, eight are located in Thailand, some of which have already gained international recognition like Patong and Karon Beaches of Phuket, ranking at number 16 and 18 respectively.Three of the beaches are placed in the top 10; they consist of Nai Harn Beach of Phuket at number 5 and Railay Beach and Phra Nang Beach of Krabi at number 7 and 10 respectively.Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Thawatchai Aranyik said he was overjoyed at the rankings given by TripAdvisor, adding that it was an honor for the country to have won over the hearts of visitors. He pointed out that Thailand had long been reputed as one of the best destinations in the world to enjoy the sun, sea and sand.TripAdvisor’s ranking was based on the compilation of reviews and scores given by international travelers using the website. The best beach in Asia this year is White Beach of the Philippines’ Boracay Island while the best in the world is Sancho Beach, Fernando de Noronha, Brazil.-- NNT 2014-03-
laban
Even though I agree there are some wonderful beaches in Thailand, and Phra Nang beach in Krabi is indeed great, I was sad to see that on my recent visit to Krabi that most of the beaches are never cleaned of all the litter that is washed up, never mind the rubbish leave around. The TAT should be at the forefront to ensure all beaches in popular spots are cleaned regularly. After so long in Thailand, their and relevant authorities inaction is not a surprise though. tomyummer
Railay Beach was definitely one of the best beaches in Thailand when I saw it years ago. Any island beach without the floating trash, pesky beach vendors and oil slicks from motor boats or jet skis will be enjoyable in Thailand. ginjag
Where was Pattaya/Jomptien ???? pristine white sand clear turquoise waters, and not a smell or any floating debris, and all the beach raked and trash in the bin everyday. This is why Pattaya is so popular, or is there other evening attractions ???

heybruce
It's not clear from the title, but these are the 25 most popular beaches in Asia, not the best. A beach can be crowded and trashed, but so long as its still popular it can make the list.

Popular Post alphaflight
Well, that just goes to show you that all the right people are being paid off and floated. I just came back from Nha Trang Vietnam; and I can tell you, this beach is miles ahead of any beach I've seen in Thailand. No dogs, no beggars, no garbage. Much better waves and proper sun beds with cushions and towels. Not to mention the beautifully sculpted gardens, trees, and a boardwalk. Thai beaches are treated much the same way the Thais treat their country; like a garbage dump. They have no regard, respect, or pride for their lands. And way too many stray dogs!

Anyone can log in using any of a 100 or more pseudonyms and proceed to promote or discredit and service or facility that they choose. If all the staff at TAT logged in using various false identities, they could readily promote all of Thailand's beaches into the top places...!! It would be better if they did straw polls in all of these countries, the results would be hugely different.
Popular Post art vandelay
i was in thailand in the mind 1990's and stayed on some fabulous beaches. i never see beaches like that in thailand nowadays. if these thai beaches rate so high i think it says more about the lack of quality beaches elsewhere asia. my sister lives in north of sydney, as you drive along that coast you pass beach after beach that knocks anything thailand has right out of the water. (pun intended) if only the thai's could see the benefit of taking care of their beaches. but they dont.

Carrerakiss
I live at Nai Harn and can see how a two week tourist would think its great given the adjacent headlands and reservoir to the rear. But it was much much better when it wasn't festooned with beach chairs. There are way too many for the beach area available. Obviously the deck chair attendants clean and rake the beach which is good, but the water has litter floating in it and pollution is evident because in high season there is a stinging sensation from something in the water. Not just on one day, but experienced in each of the last three years. Low season is much better to be honest, but of course it's dangerous to swim then. Karon is a plain strip of sand. With a road running along the back and hotels and/or scrubland on the other side. I can't see such fantastic beauty there that it would be in the top 100 of anything. Boracay is a far better managed, maintained and protected beach than the Thai ones mentioned. No dogs, no litter, no smoking, trimmed coconuts, no high rise buildings, no road along the back side.......and yet it has very heavy tourist traffic. AND, it's in another corrupt, inefficient SE Asia country. Take a look Thailand and see how to properly utilize your resources. You don't have to be Hanauma Bay in a US state to make money now AND protect resources for your children's future.

marko kok prong
wai chek and long beach on koh chang are very good, but hard to get to due to the appalling roads'well tracks would be a better description, but this has saved them from development and i can only hope this continues, however if they ever complete the road around the south of the island, this could change. skorchio
Well one does have to question the citeria for these awards, because they must certainly not include aesthetic and natural beauty, water quality and 'close to natural condition'. That Patong beach is mentioned puts the whole award system into disrepute. I have lived in Patong for 12 years, and the beach is filth. Swimmers give way to power-toys (or die), joggers are pestered by jetski beachboys, the water is FULL of plastic (true of all Phuket beaches), and the south end is basically a sewer. Having said all that, it is very entertaining place to spend the day, there is so much going on. Katoeys playing volleyball, parasailers moving sunbathers away at their command, drinking sessions, hookers on the job, families, kids, steroid heads showing off and since the Russian invasion plenty of paleskinned eye candy. Something for everyone, eh?
Emster23
Jomtien and Pattaya beaches will soon be added to the list due to announcement that soon bits of MH 370 will be added to the washed up litter to enhance the beach combing experience. The hub of things lost at sea. Everyday Jomptien gets more bad, it looks like a squadron of planes have been ditched there. I love the way they rake the beach patch and put it into piles and at high tide the waves wash it back into the sea again. Some parts that are not occupied by a renter this is used as a tip, and again this at high tide is washed out again flows down the beach to a deck chair owner who rakes it up , the whole cycle is stated again. Guessing 30% of rubbish washed up is discarded OVERBOARD by LAZY sh##s instead of bagging up and bin it ashore.
