BANGKOK, March 31 - Protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban has set April 5 for a major assembly of leaders of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) nationwide.

In a harsh speech on stage at the Lumpini Park rally site last night, the former deputy prime minister said the upcoming meeting will be crucial in mapping out a new offensive strategy and set a date for what he is calling the "big battle."

PDRC leaders will discuss and decide on their next move after the Thai people came out in full force on Saturday to reiterate their disapproval of the Yingluck Shinawatra government.

Calling the Yingluck government as a"bandit" regime, Mr Suthep said PDRC protesters will intensify their movement against the government which lost its legitimacy months ago.

He called on police and military personnel to suppress the "bandits" from Thai territory, adding that civil servants will be asked to stop working for the caretaker government.

Thai people from all walks of life should stand up to get rid of the government, he said. (MCOT online news)

People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) protesters have blocked both in-bound and out-bound lanes of the Thai-Belgiun and Thai-Japanese bridges, causing heavy traffic congestion on Rama 4 road, according to the police traffic control centre.

The blockades have slowed vehicles on both in-bound and out-bound lanes of Rama 4 road and connected roads to a crawl.

Jor Sor 100 radio station's website advises motorists to avoid Rama 4 road. Silom/SAthorn/Wireless all screwed up...Thanks again Suthep's ..big battle must have begun lolol

So when were those roads ever an absolute dream to drive down fast?

You don't know BKK very well if you are blaming traffic congestion on the PDRC movement. Those roads were slow moving for years on a daily basis.

Post something original and factual or don't post at all.

Booooring!!

it's the very same day, that reds will be congregating in 20 places around bangkok province. That's not coincidental date and, one can suspect, will lead to the street confrontation, if some reds had plans to come to bkk itself

Why don't they wait a week and a have a big water fight? They could have water guns, pin pong balls filled with water, water bombs.... could be quite fun!

Eh, call me pessimistic, but with the level of violence on both sides we might have to beware of cayenne pepper in the water, vinegar, or something else nasty....

Think this year I might boycott the first couple of days and stay home.

30-50,000 in a city of 12-15m is not "in force" (and before anyone tries to claim otherwise, Royal Plaza won't hold more than that and there was a lot of empty ground). He couldn't pull the crowds on Saturday and so we have yet another "final push" - or "big battle".

This old thug is as credible as his claims of "reform". He and his bosses want the exact opposite. How many more will die as he refuses to let go? (chants of "man from Dubai" in response please).

yes 30-50.000 would not be, but 1-5 Millions (up to who you believe) are.

you wanted to say 1.5mln or 1-5mln? Such a wide estimation is just funny.

according to the international media, the least biased, is in tens of thousands. In the original post is just about several thousands.

what is worrying is the urge from suthep to push for confrontation before songkran holidays, as he is afraid that once southerners go home for rest, they do not come back to bangkok

The sun must have got to his head. He forgot that he said the same thing months ago. My advise is that he put on a cap or sun screen or his brain will scrambled. He even got the numbers wrong on Saturday from 1 M in the morning to 30k most in the evening.

After Saturday's mega flop, he's still dreaming of a glorious victory? Reminiscent of the Battle of the Bulge, 1944

What an analogy - Suthep commanding the 101st Airborne, surrounded by those desperate Nazi storm trooper red shirt fanatics under the command of Obersturmbanfuhrer Jautupon. The red leader is hiding away in the wolf's lair buker deep in Dubai while is troops prepare for the ultimate sacrifice,

Wonder who will play Patton coming to the rescue?

Interesting that only you and the other PTP adorers see Saturday as a flop. Seemed more like a large number of people yet again showing their disapproval at the Yingluck regime and its efforts to cling on to power as instructed from the bunker.

It is a flop when the walk around did not achieve the desired results. There was no Million as Dear Leader boast. The day ended like any other day which is Nothing. Life resumed after the Sunday walk around. The caretaker government is still there and Yinglck has not resigned. There was no instigated violence and military stayed away I will call that a misery flop.

Once again the old Puppet and his sponsors tries to provoke the Red Shirts to come for a street fight in hope the Army will step in then.

I seems that his provoking has worked, I'm just back from a week in the north and it seems that one hell of a street fight is brewing and unfortunately more loss of life, and another couple of steps backwards for Thailand.
