Double-entry tourist visa for Singapore passport holder

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I was wondering if Singapore passport holders are entitled to double-entry visas?

I called up the Thai embassy in Singapore and was told no, but based on a few readings of blog posts and forums, it seems quite a few Singaporeans are/were able to obtain double-entry tourist visas.

I'm 25 years old, and will be starting a four-month dive internship in May in Phi Phi and was told to try and obtain a double entry visa.

Some posts mentioned going to Laos and/or Penang, Malaysia to get the double-entry visas.

But I just wanted to check if the visas are country-specific, and if not, where would be the best place to get it?

Thanks!

I have seen no reports of anybody getting a 2 entry in Singapore.

Vientiane and Savannakhet Laos is dong them. Yangon Myanmar also. All others that are nearby only do single entry visas.

Thanks for your reply!

So it IS possible for a Singapore passport holder to obtain a double entry tourist visa?

Would you happen to know if there are any other embassies besides the ones you've mentioned that do double entries?

Thanks!

Singapore as far as I know does not do them for anybody. I think you said they already told you no.

Bali, Jakarta and Hanoi do 2 entries but you need to show tickets out of Thailand for each entry.

A word of warning !

Is this a genuine "Internship" or something for which payment has been made and will involve working ?

Immigration and the Dept of Work has recently been taking a great interest in the "dive industry"

A genuine "Internship" in association with a registered school or university would enable the acquisition of an ED visa

Right, I understand that the Thai embassy in Singapore won't do it, but as a Singapore passport holder, if I go to the ones in Laos/Yangon, will I get rejected?

With regards to Bali, Jakarta and Hanoi, will the ticket have to correspond to the ticket I actually use when I leave Thailand?

For example if I buy a ticket out of Thailand on Sept 15th and show them that, do I actually have to use that same ticket when I leave? Or can I leave with a ticket say for Sept 16th?

Thanks!

Yeah I've heard about them cracking down on the "dive industry" recently.

It's a free divemaster course of one month after which I spend three months with them as "payback".

There's no payment whatsoever.

It's not an internship with a school or university but with a dive centre.

It is a version of a scam and involves a person working illegally !

Why do you imagine the authorities are "cracking down" ?

No. If tickets are required as proof of exit from Thailand, for the purposes of applying for a double entry visa you may exit anyway you wish, overland included. You could probably get away with showing an itinerary where payment has not been made or make a booking on Air Asia or another cheap airline where you don't end up travelling (as long as the price is cheap you could throw away the flight). Thai immigration isn't that sophisticated that they'd be able to know that you intend to fly the next day and in any case they don't care as long as you don't overstay. In fact, even Singapore immigration wouldn't know or care about this.

Great, thanks for your reply.

Does anyone also know if it's easy to obtain the double entry visa from Bali/Jakarta?

I've read that Vientiane seems to be the best place to get it from, but it's quite a hassle for me to get there and I'd much rather go to Bali/Jakarta.

Also, would I have to enter Thailand right after I get the visa or am I allowed to return to Singapore first then fly out to Thailand the week after with the double entry visa?

Thanks much!

You can go anywhere after you get your visa. But every day you don't use it is a day lost on its validity because it starts on the date of issue.
