Hi

Has anyone had any luck obtaining a non O single/multiple visa based on taking care
their child from savannakhet?

If yes,did you need to show financial proof?

I'm divorced and have been given sole custody by the thai court. My multiple non O finishes on

5th June and I dont think my funds will be ready in the uk to obtain the letter from the

embassy. So I will not be able to go to immigration and apply for an extension.

Any recent reports or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

You should be able to get it with no financial proof needed.

Just be sure you have birth certificates and documents proving custody when you apply.

I you need extra time you can also get a 60 day extension at immigration to visit your child.

That's a relief, thanks. My 3 month's statements for the british embassy letter should be ready around July

so I can try for an extension at immigration after.

Thanks

You can do the 60 day extension and then the one year extension without a problem.

Is it your visa that is expiring in June or your last 90 day entry. You can get a new entry just before the visa expires and get another 90 days.

Hi

It's the visa that is expiring. I have had 15 months out of it.

I was told about 2 years ago at the Thai consulate in Vientiane, Laos that I, as the biological father and financial supporter of a Thai national minor, have a right (her words, not mine) to a 3 month O visa.

I don't know if that is actually the law, or if that is even the current policy there, so take it for what it's worth (TIT YMMV, this is Thailand, "your milage may vary").

When we did this, there was a requirement for THB 400,000 in the bank.

There was a requirement for 90 day visa runs.

However, it may depend on the specific circumstances of the child. I don't see why it would, though.

When was this. I have seen no recent reports of financial proof and the ones I can recall were through the casino when they were offering the service.

All multiple entry visas require border runs every 90 days.

Haven't tried. Last time I went to Cardiff, which was one of the easiest ones to deal with, staff retirements meant a change of view, officially immigration but almost certainly local, that claimed child-based visas were no longer available. When they were available, financial proof wasn't required. You could try emailing, or calling, the consulate, both of which do engender responses from some of them, but I don't know about Savannakhet.

Multiple entry non-o visas are available along with extensions of stay from immigration. But you have to be the legal father of your child by way of being married to the mother or had your parenthood legitimized by a Thai court or at a Amphoe (child needs to be 7 or older).

In the case of the OP he was married and got divorced getting full custody of his child.

Jumping in whilst forgetting that my current visa IS for my son, obtained from HCMC, though. Also available from Phnom Penh, neither with financial proof, though HCMC did require a letter from my 'wife', something I recall PP didn't need. Both single entry, which can be changed at immigration, where you WILL need to present proof of B400,000 in the bank.

My Work Permit based visa did not require border runs, nor do the kids' educational visas; only 90 day reporting.

On the issue of the 400,000 baht - probably that was not required for the original Non-O, because when applying for that, it is assumed you are not resident in Thailand, therefore could not be expected to have a bank account there. But for the extension to one year, and subsequent renewals, the bank balance was required.

I got a non- o from Savanakhet in January based on support of child

no financial required ( a friend did same ) just have your paper work

That said you can get a 60 day extension from immigration while your money matures in the bank (there is no requirement for financial proof)

Then get your one year extension

i have just gone through getting the one year extension in Udon thani and it was quite a rigmarole as new requirements were added on each visit

Even though they accepted my application (finally) I had to go in yesterday again with another witness they now say again no problem (my wife says they just did not want to visit our house, I dont live in Udon thani)

They took photographs of my family the witness outside immigration.

P.S. this is thailand and anything can be different on a different day and location

You apparently got a single entry non-o visa, Which I suspect was not for only having a child. Did you include your marriage certificate with the application?

And now have done an extension of stay. Which appears to of been done based upon marriage since you mentioned your wife,

Yes it was a single entry non-o

No it did not include a marriage certificate as i wasnt married at the time

My friend who is not married to his girlfriend also got the same with no issues

3 months earlier i got the same visa in Vientiane with no need for proof of funds
