you forgot to mention Suthep and his land deals... you see the problem is that corruption here is not treated fairly and I do not for ONE second believe YL was corrupt - so your comment let's itself down very badly as POLITICALLY motivated

take the politics OUT of corruption - condemn them ALL

She is a proven perjurer. And those lies were about her corrupt brother.

Why couldn't she be corrupt, too?

450 billion gone under Yingluck's watch. Believe what you want but that is the truth and she should be punished.

And on what basis do you make the claim? Can you please direct me to the actual evidence that supports the claim? You make your statement because you want to believe the opinion of one man. If you were truly motivated by a sense of justice, you would be asking how this man came to his conclusion.

Just for the moment let me say that I agree with you that 450Bn baht is not missing and there was no corruption.

If that is true then why can the government NOT pay the farmers as there is NO money in the fund and 450 Bn is 3 times what they owe the farmers?

If on the other hand the 450 Bn baht has gone "missing" and there is no money to pay the farmers, WHERE IS THE MONEY?

Please don't try to blame Abhisit, Suthep, the Democrats or the protesters or anyone else. This is 100% to do with the PTP and Yingluck, nobody else.

Why doesn't the PTP open the books of the rice deal from day 1, after all if there is nothing wrong then they must be innocent and everybody else in Thailand and the rest ofthe world must be wrong and I wil apologise to you.

So if you red and PTP supporters want the truth get the books opened and audited by some independent auditors from both within and without Thailand.

Because they have 20mn tons of rice at 30,000 baht/tonne sitting in the warehouse.

now exceeds over 450 billion baht

he is a pupil of that great Mathematician Suthep right?

Do you have any figures to contest what he says?

Seems better than the usual conflicting and nonsensical attempts at figures usually put forward by the caretaker finance and commerce ministers.

Easy, all YL and her caretaker cabinet have to do is open the books to independent audit.

Or, perhaps they know where this 450 billion baht is? Maybe the same place as the 350 billion water management budget that has not been approved to be spent yet.

PTP use the old trick practiced by many governments around the world. Move the money from the left pocket to the right pocket and claim it's increased in value each time. But they got their own slant. Each time you move it siphon some off. Now they're shocked to see it's all gone! Their unbounded greed and open arrogance whilst flaunting their massive gains in wealth has come back to bite them in the arse.

Since YL took office - Shin clan wealth increased 450%. 1 billion baht returned to her criminal fugitive brother. (A government sending huge amount of money overseas to a convicted fraudster fugitive, who is wanted in court on 15 more serious charger, must be a first any where in the world!), Guess someone must be good at something. This would not happen and be tolerated in any democracy with justice and the rule of law, But TiT and she comes from election so can do as she pleases.

Now, I hope all those poor farmers remember to touch their forelocks when presented with any member of the elite HiSo Chinese Shin Clan feudal lords. Peasants should know it's there place to be screwed by he Shin gang, and then thank them for doing so,

I find it far fetched that 60% of the scheme disappeared into corruption since this would mean the farmers would have ended up with no real gain, and they would've complained about that. What this article suggests is that the estimated figure of subsidy, 450 billion, has all disappeared. Lets assume that there was a pre-existing amount of corruption which is part and parcel of any transaction here, but on the flip side, if the govt's control of the money was thorough and the skimming done systematically, then where did all this money end up and even if half of it is now in a PT election slush fund, then 200 billion is a formidable amount. No wonder the Democrats are now refusing to contest elections. This has been grand larceny on the grandest scale!

Well this is the problem with these alarmist headlines.

Probably there.is corruption, but losing money with a subsidy is not corruption. They are two different things.

You are correct of course. Losing money on the scheme, could have been justified as a social cost of improving the lives of many. It wasn't envisaged that way, with Thaksin's lunatic idea of manipulating world prices through hoarding, but could have been presented as such,

Sadly, as you know, many of the poor haven't benefited, many are owed money for months, some have been driven to suicide and the main beneficiaries seem to be rich millers and "other".

Charges have been laid against the former commerce minister and his deputy, and there are many ongoing investigations, such as fraudulent export sales with forged documents. The one person at the finance ministry who tried to expose the rampant corruption was censured, hounded, victimized, intimidated and transferred to an inactive post. Not one word of thanks or investigation from Madame caretaker PM/DM and chair of the rice scheme,

All she has to do is open the books to independent audit. She has repeatedly said there is no corruption in this scheme or her administration. Unfortunately most people want something a little more tangible that the words of a perjurer.

PTP will never open these or any other books, Why do you think that is?

Do you have any proof of that? Has anybody done a full and OPEN audit lately. What about all the rice sales that the government claims it has made? If they sold the rice where is the money? If they didn't where is the rice?

But they CAN'T sell the rice at 30,000 baht a ton. They can't even sell the rice at 10,000 baht a ton, so IF they value it at 30,000 baht a ton then it must be fraudulent accounting by about 200%.

Never anything but rubbish trolling from you.

At least you can say things to people on TV you would never dare say in person.

It is a well known that he had been audited, assets frozen, then some returned. Oh, wait, that was before you arrive in 2013.

And this means that 270 billion baht (60%) went into the pockets of the politicians. You can buy a lot of people with that kind of money. And this is ONLY the rice scheme.

Are you for real? And are you a real teacher? If you are a real teacher than I have to thank you. Because for a few years I'm trying to figure out why the education system is so <deleted> up in Thailand. Now I know it. Thank god you don't teach at my son school.

"total damage from corruption amounted to over 450 billion baht, or equivalent to 60% of total sum used for the rice-pledging scheme."

I'm no fan of the scheme and am sure there was a lot of corruption, but surely not 60%. That's insane, no one could be stupid enough to think they could get away with that level of criminality.

You've not been in Thailand long enough ...

12 years. I am aware that Thai officialdom is corrupt to the core, but I still can't see this figure being correct.

28 years. 60% is absolutely possible. Shouldn't be, but unfortunately it is.

Read post #98. The figures quoted ARE wrong. It was 1 Bn$ USD and Not 1Bn Thai baht. Understated by about 32 times.

The figure shoud have read, MORE than 30,000,000,000 was transferred to Thaksina accounts and not a measly1,000,000,000 baht.

Do try harder to get your facts straight when making foolish claims unless of course YOU believe that Forbes lied to the world.

I hate all this "it's all there fault" ALL corruption on EITHER side should be exposed - I remember Abhisit was charged with rice corruption too - can't we take the politics OUT of corruption and condemn it ALL?

Who cares about condemning anything/anyone. Even if Abhisit is guilty of anything, it is in the past, and the damage, if any, has been contained. We need this rice scam stopped so we do not lose another 450 billion over the next 2 years. That should be the countrys first priority, even before reform/election. It does not matter who is the leader or how he/she got elected, if he/she is going to lead a bankrupt country.

and while the rest of the thais struggle to make a living the fat cats are gorging them selves in a banquet of cash

Isn't it strange how the majority OF RED SHIRT SUPPORTERS STILL CONTINUE TO VOTE THESE PEOPLE INTO POWER? They still kill innocents in the name of their political party, the very same party that is ripping them off ! They must feel pretty smug sitting there carving up the cash of their own countrymen. What do they acually think of the farmers who work hard just to exist ? The answer is they treat them like the uneducated people that they are, tell them a pack of lies, and then sucker-punch them! Things like honesty and honour, keeping ones word ........., don't exist in this country for the masses. Lies , deceit, corruption, and we are the bl**dy fools ..........we live here!!!

Yes convict all that are corrupt.. for now that is YL and those involved in this failed corrupt program. Yesterday there was a democrat senator that seemed to be corrupt and i was just as hard advocating there for jail time. I really hope they will get the guilty PTPers in this program and really punish them. (that its PTP is obvious as its a PTP program)

Once corruption is really attacked it will be less profitable for crooks to have a position in government and a lot of this fighting will end as there is less money involved. Convicting Taksin was a good thing but not harsh enough.. and they should have taken on others too. Examples must be made and then other convictions.

you forgot to mention Suthep and his land deals... you see the problem is that corruption here is not treated fairly and I do not for ONE second believe YL was corrupt - so your comment let's itself down very badly as POLITICALLY motivated

take the politics OUT of corruption - condemn them ALL

It seems you have a fixation on Suthep, you mention him in a lot of your misguided posts. Let us digress momentarily re Politics and corruption... Just prior to Thaksin selling Shin Corp, the Government kindly changed the Laws invoving Foreign Investment in Thailand which resulted in Thaksin avoiding the payment of Capital Gains Tax thus once again, Thaksin was only thinking of enriching himself and depriving the People of Thailand Millions in taxes. And you claim there is no politics in Corruption // You are really pathetic with your reasoning....and I and many others believe YL is corrupt.....it is a family trait.

Both Yingluck and Suthep are likely corrupt, but that is not the problem. The problem, which Binjalin refuses to see/admit, is that Yingluck (and friends) have taken corruption to a whole new level. A level so high (450 billion and counting plus all the other scams) that it now threatens the country's long term financial situation, and right now that is the country's biggest and most urgent problem - even bigger than reforms and elections.

When a cashier in a bank steals 1,000 baht, it is not a big deal. The person will eventually be dealt with, but the bank will stay open as if nothing had happened.

If a bankrobber comes in and robs the whole bank, then it is a big deal. The bank will be closed, the police will be called, and everything will be investigated before the bank reopens.

I hope certain people here (binjalin, rich teacher etc.) see the difference!

Just think what that 450 billion baht could have done for the red shirt voters themselves.

More hospitals, more schools, more jobs and importantly, more hope.

And still there's some red shirts on here who still think there's nothing wrong with this Rice Scheme.

This really says it all. It is one of the reasons why the Pheu Thai administration floundered, and why it is facing such a string of judicial and constitutional challenges. This one issue alone could have brought down any administration just by itself. The fact that Pheu Thai actually perpetuated a string of constitutional infractions makes this all the more remarkable. They were completely out of control. The judicial system has finally caught up with them, however. And this conclusion by the TDRI simply underscores the magnitude of the malfeasance.

Nothing new. We have heard this for years from all corners of the country and the world and Yingluck hasn't tried to improve it. Why not? Because it is fairly obvious her family is making billions out of it. And then this sick lady keeps on using the farmers as a smoke screen.

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Well you must have all the evidence to prove that, "her family is making billions out of it" because if you don't you could be exposed to the liable laws, I'm just sayingwhistling.gif

Please share this overwhelming evidence with us, I can't wait to see it, WOW you really must have some major connections to get this info huh,,,

So run along with your evidence and tell the TDRI and NACC you have everything they need to remove her and you'll be Sutheps hero. good luck with that

The evidence came from Mr. T's big mouths by stating in an interview that he had received 30 Billion Bht. (1 Billion. Dollars) from the Thai Gov. What did he do to earn that money? Being his sisters caddy?

how do you know it's the truth? evidence? investigation? or just believing some academic? I can see she maybe guilty of negligence (as much as Abhisit and all the others) but you are deluded if you think she STOLE the money

let's wait and see before you let your POLITICS influence your judgement?

Selling rice below market price to private chinese trading companies. It is all reported. Maybe the shins have something to do with it....

Look at it this way. We all agree that there is widespread corruption in the scheme. Obviously this is a high risk for the shins. A risk that it will be used to attack Yingluck. If she or her brother don't receive any money out of it, why didn't they do something about it?

Back to negligence.

The Forbes article doesn't say anything about how that money was recovered. That it was recovered through the current government's corruption is just a yellow fantasy like the rest of the <deleted> they spew about the Shinawatras.

I suggest you take a course in critical analysis of texts so you aren't so easily duped.
