webfact
Surapong tells US of Suthep's declaration of himself a sovereignBANGKOK: -- Caretaker Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul on Tuesday told the US assistant secretary of state and US ambassador that the declaration of a sovereign by People’s Democratic Reform Committee leader Suthep Thaugsuban is an act of treason. The US assistant secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Russel and US ambassador Kristie Kenny met the caretaker deputy prime minister at the Defense Ministry today during his visit to Thailand to hear briefing of the current political situation. At the meeting, Mr Surapong said he told the senior US official that declaration by the PDRC leader Suthep last week of making himself a sovereign is an act of treason. He said the PDRC announced to seize power from the caretaker prime minister, and blatantly declared himself a sovereign is a breach of the constitution. It’s a threat to national security, he said, adding that he will call a meeting of the Center for Maintaining Peace and Order to take action against Suthep on such declaration.Apart from telling the US senior officials, Surapong said he also would send letters to inform all ambassadors about the act.He said the Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and all Democrats should now turn to democratic system and stop advocating the PDRC leader.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/surapong-tells-us-sutheps-declaration-sovereign/ -- Thai PBS 2014-04-08

Popular Post billd766
And the USA and all the ambassadors around the world are expected to do what? K Surapong, this is Thailand. This is internal to Thailand and will affect nobody else in the world so why should the world care? Deal with it yourself assuming you have the power to do so and also assuming anybody listens to you.

Suthep said the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) was ready to step in as soon as the judicial axe falls on the current cabinet. “Once we become the sovereign, we’ll seize the assets of the of the Shinawatra family members. We won’t allow them to go abroad. Bluespunk
"At the meeting, Mr Surapong said he told the senior US official that declaration by the PDRC leader Suthep last week of making himself a sovereign is an act of treason" Above all, don't lie to yourself. The man who lies to himself and listens to his own lie comes to a point that he cannot distinguish the truth within him, or around him, and so loses all respect for himself and for others. Popular Post DirtFarmer
I am sure they already know about that... but then Surapong is not a democrat or PDRC...why on earth would he advocate for them...? Of course anyone can color anything according to their bias but I think outside neutral parties,,,not caught up in the drama... can measure what was said against what constitutes treason or any other untoward act by holding up the benchmark Law/ or whatever form be it Constitutional or other... and seeing if it actually does constitute a criminal or untoward act... and make an independent decision themselves... It is not uncommon in any adversarial system that one party argues 180 degrees in opposition of the other party..in fact that is usually the case.. then of course the arbiter must weigh the preponderance of the presented facts/opinions and make a decision accordingly... but my guess is even the most die-hard supporters of Suthep are cringing a lil bit and are having a hard time with the fact that he might have said exactly what he is attributed to have said and more... IMO ...he should have quit after the amnesty bill... claimed the victory there and gone back to rebuilding with Abhisit and the Dems a decent and progressive manifesto for change and reform .. presented that to constituents and done political and grass roots outreach in order to grow their support base...and maybe in taking the higher road at that time might afford them an electoral victory down the road but...that day is long gone and in it's wake we have this division and growing unrest...and as this "faux pas" gathers steam he will continue to lose it....

Popular Post Thait Spot
Whilst I believe that, on occasion, Suthep has taken leave of his senses - stating that he will be the "sovereign" is not something that I believe him to have said. Delusions of taking over the big chair and the crown jewels would leave him answering charges of LM as well as being straight-jacketed and subsequently Guy Fawkesed and he's not that daft. He may well believe that he will be granted certain powers under certain conditions - but he would be in a tiny minority of people entertaining such thoughts. This is Thaksin's cousin mischief making by false representation in my opinion

Its entirely normal diplomatic protocol to inform the ambassadors of other nations certain events that impact the host nation - an act of Treason is probably one such event. As there was a very senior member of the US Govt visiting Thailand, again its normal procedure that a meeting is arranged with senior Govt and diplomatic officials. I'm certain that the US would be very well informed of the political status from their own sources anyway, but at Govt level certain protocols must be followed. No big deal.
Popular Post Songhua
PT are clutching at every tiny little thing now to hang on to power and will do their best to demonise anyone who might stand in their way.Very well timed by Surapong. Three guesses who'll be the butt of the Lumphini speeches tonight? He'd be only too well aware that Suthep's addresses over the last two nights have been largely focused on quite angrily telling Robert Amsterdam and those countries welcoming and harbouring Thaksin to keep their noses out of Thailand's affairs. I doubt Suthep is gullible enough to fall into this trap by taking it further and launching into a total anti-world tirade (although anything's possible!), but you could almost put money on losing count of the number of times he's going to say 'Surapong'. One would think they'd prefer Suthep to shut his trap ... yet they continually provide him with just enough ammunition to fire another volley.
