CMIB
I have just moved to Chiang Mai and hopefully I shall soon be receiving a brand new laptop from Bangkok with just DOS on. I need to find a good computer man who load up the software including Windows who is preferably easy to get to I.e. Not by the moat! Any suggestions? Tywais
"brand new laptop with just DOS on it." Did you just get out of prison? Pretty common for a laptop/netbook to come sans OS or either DOS or Linux.

One does not even install DOS before installing WIN 7, and that has been out for about five years.

Just go to Pantip Plaza or elsewhere and see for yourself. Most commonly the computers come only with Dos.

Regarding the question of a computer that "ships" with DOS: I looked at Invade IT... one page of ASUS laptops had 29 models - 19 had DOS listed on them. Most, if not all, laptops purchased from Invade IT would be "shipped" to the purchaser. Maybe you are thinking of MS-DOS ?

But, I will stand corrected on the availability of new systems with "dos." Simply a smoke and mirror way for various parties to attempt to steal intellectual property. Are the pirates installing 7 now? Those Windows systems are only as good as the "updates." If you're too stingy to pay MS, just use Chrome. Frank James
Always happy to recommend this young man's fine shop: Chiangmai Notebook Service Kiatchai Kaewnan owner 084-1511684 or 080-6723414 Pantip Plaza upstairs Hope he's still there, that place is emptying out at an alarming rate. Rents? PS: I have no personal or financial interest in this business. He did good work for me, that's all. Mods said it was OK to recommend on here. Many computers in Thailand are sold without an operating systems pre-installed unlike in the west. Shops will often put some version of dos on them just to demonstrate to purchasers that they work. If you buy a laptop and a legitimate copy of Windows they are happy to install it for you.

You are making unfounded accusations of the OP so would recommend not going there. You really don't get it it seems. It is a matter of choice. Why pay several thousand baht for a copy of windows you do not want if one prefers something else. Ubuntu is hardly the only Linux distribution out there and others may want to install their own preference. Myself, for Linux, prefer OpenSUSE, others like MINT, etc.
