It will be more than 100% tax and it is based on the value of the car in Thailand, not what it's worth in Germany. I have been trying to figure out a cheap way of getting an old Mini cooper imported. This is a good website: http://www.thaicongenvancouver.org/cms/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=140#Permanent

I know of an old Merc on Samui that might be for sale, I will check with the owner over the weekend.

If you have someone who reads Thai, check out http://www.olx.co.th/ for used cars for sale

S Class, E Class, C Class? Big difference. You could probably buy one from one of hundreds of used car dealers. Try one2car.com as a start.

In Answer to the OP, yes older cars had different tax structures to cars today.

There have been numerous changes to the way cars have been taxed - in the early 1990's the ban on importing cars < 2.3L was lifted, import tariffs dropped, and VAT was introduced. In the late 90's import duties were raised to 80%, and new excise taxes based on engine capacity and HP were introduced in the mid 2000's.

A 90's or before imported car was taxed much lower than it is today.
