A South Korean national wanted by Interpol was arrested yesterday by Interior Ministry police, officials said.

Pang Naren, deputy director of the Ministry of Interior’s internal security department, said Lee In-yong, 36, was arrested in a hotel in Kampong Cham town along with another South Korean national.

“Because his name was on the red list, we have to deport him to South Korea,” he said. “It depends on the Korean authorities whether they want [him] sent back by tonight or tomorrow.”

Naren said police were in talks with the South Korean embassy over whether to deport the accomplice as well.

Major General Chhay Sinarith, director of the Internal Security Department, said the arrest was made after a request from South Korean police to Interpol to arrest the suspect, who is accused of committing undisclosed crimes in his homeland before fleeing to Cambodia.

Lee could not be found on Interpol’s “Wanted Persons” list yesterday, and the Korean Embassy deferred to police.
