What a hypocrite. The majority of today's problems are directly related to HIS actions.

I thought the problems today were historically due to the elite purposely keeping the masses educationally, sub standard for decades, not a mere decade!

In an endeavour to hold on to an elitist way of life longer.

Even though world history has taught us, you can't keep the poor down indefinitely.

With the advent of the internet, banning books in Thailand became ineffective.

The truth is coming out.

The elite, arrogantly could not conceive what happened in China, Vietnam, Nepal, Cambodia, Laos, could ever happen in a country where the Elite controlled the poor by feeding them bullshit!

Yet here we are.

Only with an uneducated arrogant population falling behind the corrupt red shirts.

A Thainess mess, created by the elites arrogance!

'' Power concedes nothing without a demand.

It never did and it never will.''

''Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them.''

Wise words but too wise for this forum!

Just imagine the progress that could have been made if the jealous & spiteful elite hadn't turned on the best PM Thailand has ever had. Instead we have had 8 years of hatred & mayhem, with no end in sight. It wouldn't have mattered if it was Thaksin, or any other leader that had tried to prise the power away from the traditional power base, they would have ended up receiving the same fate.

Actually you have to think how much the PTP destroyed the country.. rice scheme.. 700 billion fail.. now the first cars is failing and the tablets have failed too. So much incomptence is seldom seen in a government but you see it every day in the PTP.

They seem to think they are above the law.. they are so stupid not to make any budget allocations before dissolving themselves.

The PTP and their supporters make ordinary people look smart that is about the best they do. Those few red supporters on Thaivisa make us normal posters seem like geniuses. That is their one redeeming quality. But its only normal that a party that is that incompetent attracts people who are the same.

About the only thing the red shirt supporters have to remember about Thaskin , four and half thousand either murdered or disappeared in the North under drug control, without trial, people driven into temple and massacred in the South, Thaskin under investigation for crimes against humanity, (The UN stopped, WHY)the electronics scam involving the Thai government , Thaskins company and the Burma junta , what about Thaskins company making six times the profit since becoming PM than in previous years, the list is endless Happy SongKran Thaskin.

He said it was a pity when the good culture of Thais having hospitality towards one another has been destroyed by such injustices.

I'm sure the families of the 13 farmers that committed suicide over this idiots rice scheme would have enjoyed Songkran if they could have spent it with their loved ones. The farmers that haven't been paid despite many "promises" that they would be paid "next week." The people that have had grenades, bombs and bullets aimed their way would probably enjoy some hospitality. The man is a scourge, a cancer, a plague and a spreader of corruption, deceit and violence. I wonder if he ever thinks about the millions of people that will cheer on the occasion of his demise.

Or the 6000+ and counting deaths of the South unrest sparked by his policies, or the 1500+ deaths on his War on Drugs, or the 90+ deaths of his political brinkmanship on 2010, etc, etc...That's a lot of blood on a man's hands, no wonder he asks to forget all about it.

Perhaps we could have an amnesty?

Oh, wait a minute.........

I asked Isaan relatives and friends about the amensty and why so many of them had started using to no amnesty poster as their profile on face book. They said that there were mad about the bill -reasons given included:

Some said that everyone is accountable for their intentions because this is what the Buddha taught

Some were upset because it gave protection to the democrats

But the most anger came from a those who pointed out that without pushing for the protection of Mr T (not how they described him, lol) their family members would be home. One old lady who's only child is in prison said Thanksin was greedy, he wanted everything but he had the money to live like he wanted and she had no one to support her. Many considered that their family members were being held hostage for the amnesty of Thanksin by Thanksin and his sister. Many had been told that voting for any on but PT was a vote to keep their family in prison.

Now they are been told the same about the rice price/payments.

I don't think any of them believe any of the politicians now.

Can you provide just one example prior to Thaksin of arming and training Thai citizens to kill other Thai citizens for political purposes?

Or just wide spread hatred among the civil population?

I do not think you can, thus the accusation stands true.

Red Gaurs

Sorry, Red Gaurs was set up by the Thai military, it does not qualify for the citizen to citizen hatred and killing in my question.

However, you are close, perhaps Thaksin and Seh Daeng had such things in mind.

Specifically, Thaksin sought to teach the Thai to hate each other and kill each other. Considering Thai culture, I find that a paramount and unforgivable sin. If you know much about world history (and I assume that you do) you know that divide and conquer is one of history's most powerful and successful political tools for gaining power. Unfortunately, much the same is now happening in my own country.

Wiki: Red Gaurs. It was set up by the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) of the Thai military to counter the country's students movement after the democratic revolution of October 1973 Major-General Sudsai Hasadin has been reported being its main organizer.[1]

They were not army. They were civilians, as were the Village scouts. You can go & look them up in Wikipedia now!

I did, I'm not expert, but when I read things like,

It was set up by the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) of the Thai military

They were heavily funded and backed by the United States government.

They interfered in the campaign for the 1976 parliamentary election by harassing candidates and attacking political parties they perceived as leftist

the Red Gaurs were also employed to guard road construction crews against attacks in areas with communist insurgents.

The Krathing Daeng militants were well paid, provided with free liquor, taken on drinking sprees and to brothels out of public money.

..it sounds much more like part of a larger strategic international struggle against communism and other leftist forces than a corrupt politician teaching hatred and killing for his own personal gain, which was my point.

However, if you would like to compare the violence of the Red Guar to that of mr. Thaksin, I will surely admit the similarity.

He's not calling for peace and unity - he is questioning and undermining the rule of law.

This should not come as a surprise to anyone, he regards himself to be above the law, he established a political party to secure his position above the law and he now wants the actions of that party when in government to be above the law.

The man is a convicted criminal on the lam.

What is he doing being allowed to speak to the nation of TV?

And he is not legally a Thai. I wonder if he sends Christmas and New Year Greetings to Montenegro ??

Wrong, totally wrong.

Thaksin's comments have long been so unhinged from reality that you can't help but think that it is immaterial to him whether his ridiculous statements are credible or not, or whether you agree with them or not.

It seems he is working on a totally different level than just trying to say things we might agree with and then rally to support him, tho some do that anyway. It's more like we are dealing with a guy who has a view where the whole of Thai society is a kind of enormous biocomputer he is programming or attacking with viruses that are his statements in the media.

If you have heard or read his statements, it is too late for you, some part of your mind is resonating what was received from him, and together with others resonating the same message, the power of his wishes are amplified, resistance is futile, disagreeing with him has no impact on the fact that you carry the virus and are a conduit for their manifestation.

Maybe I'm giving him too much credit. Oh well, there's always my next sci-fi short story I write about a megalomaniac dictator.

Sorry, I can not remember which election the Shin dynasty under its various names got more than 44% of the vote. 44% would mean that the largest minority of voters who voted in that election. More recent attempts at elections would indicate that the majority of eligible voters have given up on PT or what ever it call its self today (sure a new name is in the post as we speak)

You've just described K. Suthep, questioning and undermining the law. Suthep also considers himself above the law, he also established a "party" to help secure his position above the law - only he isn't bothering with that voting nonsense, he want's to put an unelected (read 'cronies') in place to ruin the country further. He also wants the actions of that party to be above the law. I guess the big difference is that Suthep although charged hasn't been found guilty of his crimes yet (and i would have to say murder is a serious charge).

All the post raging and rants against The T man have a look of government propaganda the like of what we see out of Russia and that is a shame is it not?

I do not mean to say that those who oppose Taksin's ideas and political party are all undemocratic but certainly the posts we are reading here mostly are.

The group opposing Taksin certainly has more money and power than does the party that backs Lady Taksin PM. Yet we constantly here that the reason they oppose elections--the yellows and such--is because the Reds simply buy votes to win. But how can that be when the yellows have more money and almost certainly use it in amounts that surpass what the reds can use in elections. Seems that money does not buy the election.

How many times will the now ruling class depose elected governments? Is there no limit or shame to the ability for the ruling class to act?

It is obvious that things are changing rapidly in Thailand as the old try to hold on to the old un-democratic ways. Things are comfortable for those who use money and power but the cost to the nation is severe in the end.

I agree in part of what you say but to suggest corruption in Thailand was learnt from Thaksin is just plain silly. Corruption was around long before Thaksin was even conceived. He learnt his art from the previous masters.

Yes corruption was around long before Thaksin was even conceived. But Thaksin took it to an unprecedented level.

According to Transparency International, Thailand's 2005 Index of 59 was by far its best ever result. But then again, your opinion is probably better than an international agency dedicated to studying corruption around the world.

Oh Good !!! More useless information to put in the" Rich teacher "useless information " file number 2345 "

Wow, Rich Teacher got a vote for his post, the only problem is he voted for himself.

The other problem is that the voters voting for Thaksin or his clone had nothing like a majority.
