April 16, 201411 yr On advice, I'm posting this question to the forum. I'm a android noob. I recently bought a Minix Neo X7 and would like to use the Minix smartphone controller app. I have a google nexus 5 smartphone. I have already enabled "unknown sources" on the phone. I navigated to the Minix website on my phone to the download page they list under "general FAQ". The link to the download file from the website is: http://minix.com.hk/firmware/RKRemoteControlGeneralCastV2.0.3.apk This is where I get lost, I hit download expecting to get a menu screen for installing the app. Instead, the phone opens to what appears to be a text(??) file with coding on it. I do not recognize this file in a file manager app that I have and have no idea what to do with this file??. I've googled for a solution but to no avail. I'm hoping you can provide some advice or at last point me in the right direction. Thanks, Kelly Reply Report Edit
April 16, 201411 yr I assume the apk file has downloaded successfully. Yes? But it does not install automatically. Yes? I think you need to turn on Install from Unknown Sources in your android menu. This will allow non-market applications to be installed.
April 16, 201411 yr It sound like it did not download correctly Try downloading again That is the programme I have on my phone and it does work I don't remember any problems installing. The Minix Neo 7 will probably show up as eHomeCenter when you start the app
April 16, 201411 yr If a direct download to your phone doesn't work, try downloading the apk to your computer, then use a USB cable to copy to phone memory.
April 16, 201411 yr Author Thank-you all. Special thanks to RichCor- your suggestion was spot-on- it worked and was quick/easy.. I still don't understand why a direct download to my phone won't work. I tried several times to download the file to my phone and had the same result each time .
