They opened a new Global House in Ubon and I like it very much. I am repeatedly having an issue with the manager when I try to pay with my USA credit card.

The credit card machine asks to select currency F2 for Thai Baht or F3 for USD.

She insists that her accounting office tells her that she can only select F3 USD.

I want to pay in Thai Baht because they ate using Dynamic Currency and give me a poor rate conversion compared to what my MasterCard would give me if the transaction is done in Thai Baht.

Does anyone have any contact information for someone high up in Global House that can help me settle this issue?

You are being conned , as I have used my credit card (aus) in many department stores , hardware stores all around Thailand and they always take the money out in Baht.

Also we have a construction company and we buy most of our materials from mum and dad shops as we dont have to pay the 7% vat that Global charge

Global House is very good, but I've had issues. I was buying a light fitting and the only one they had left was the one hanging from the ceiling. No problem for me.

Guy comes to take it down and first says to me if its broken I still have to buy it. He took it down, it was broken. I didn't buy it. He was talking about calling the police.

Then there was the time they mixed the paint up wrong, I ordered two tins of the same colour and they came out different. They still wanted me to buy both tins! Ended up buying neither and going to Thai Watsadu instead.

Tell her to push F2 or you're not going to shop there.

Or do as suggested, and get Thai baht ahead of coming into the store.

That's really about all that can be done.

This little "scam" is common throughout Thailand, although I've never seen the manager of a big store like Global refuse to reverse a charge. Usually it's a lower level clerk and when I push the issue, they make a phone call somewhere, reverse the charge and re-do it in Thai baht. No specific experience with Global, but with other major Thai chain stores, I've always been successful in pushing the issue.

Arguing....That's what I've been doing. But its getting difficult to go through that time consuming process every purchase.

Before the transaction we discussed it at length.

We explained to her that the option for USD is MY option not HERS.

Today we literally got to the point where the selection was on the screen. I refused to pay if she chose USD and she began with the phone calls that reach no one.

The ATM suggestion won't work for me. I'm spending over the withdrawal limits.

I understand how things work here.

Neither of us wants the conflict.

She simply needs to be told by someone in her chain of command that's its OK to do. She doesn't want the complaints from her accounting dept.
