You'd be surprised. Many don't know Agoda is really good for here in Asia. Plus, my other recommendation was to just walk around over there. There are some small places to stay that I know are not on any booking website. Other than the weekends, availability should be no problem. And by booking in person, in the off season, you can generally negotiate a better rate.

There are many you will be approached at the pier I paid 1200 baht and that was with a motorbike.The room was nice and right on the water.
