Need advice on where to stay in Bkk

I am going to go to Bkk and stay for a while. I would need opinions regarding which areas are good to live in.

I want to stay really close to the center with good bts and mrt connections but not in the crowded tourist areas and not necessarily in the center but close. I have areas like Sathorn, Ari...in mind. If center, then Ekkamai or Siam for example. Please, elaborate how good those areas are and please be so kind, suggest other areas. I also thought about a bit further...upper sukhumvit(105). My question is, is it very far from the center, relying on mainly public transportation, sky train etc?
