It would be interesting to know how many of us have gone through the exhausting, expensive process of getting a foriegn passport with our other half and the story behind it.

It would also be interesting to hear member's view's and opinions on the subject.

Many Thanks

I will be helping my wife get the Aussie passport the day she is eligible for it which is in a couple years I think.

1 reason is because our daughter is an Australian citizen.

Having the Aussie pp means she will be an Aussie citizen mate.thumbsup.gif That's gold.

For the voting record, I ticked in the process of getting it.

One thing that should be on the poll is 'she can't hold a pp for my country cause they don't allow dual citizenship'

whatever country that may be, such as China.

Actually the process is the easiest of all the process. Visit visa , Settlement Visa. expensive but easy.

Umm settlement visa followed by citizenship? then eligible for a pp?

Settlement visa with tests etc.

Indefinate leave to remain etc

More test's, more money.

Citizenship.

Passport.

All depends what country the Thai try's to get a passport for, but i know the U.K is difficult and an expensive process.

It would also be interesting to hear (see) if anyone whose spouse does not now have and will never apply for citizenship (and a passport) believe that, in any way, it would be detrimental to their financial well being or what other reason they might have.

In other words, is anyone adamantally against their spouse having dual citizenship? If so, why?

It seem's so far that the majority of voter's so far have other half's with passport's from their country.

I interpret it this way - The majority of Thai Visa poster's are clued up and aware of migration issue's due to personal experience.

This poll can not predict the none member's in Thailand although we can assume a level of ignorance or a lackadaisey attitude to the subject.

Be good to have more vote's and comment's.thumbsup.gifwai.gif

My wife has had an Aussie passport since 2000. Then it was just permanent residency for 2 maybe three years, a simple interview in English with a few Australian slanted questions, citizenship issued then the passport. I think things a a little tougher now

My wife is not interested in getting an US passport nor becoming an US citizen. Why deal with the headache of having to file annual tax returns and declaring all financial accounts?

She's happy to be Thai and all the benefits that goes with it. BTW, applying for a US visa is no problem, do no need to apply for citizen or pp.
