Mysterious Army Leaflets Denounce PCAD Guards 'Thuggery'

By Khaosod Eng.

BANGKOK — The alleged shooting and beating of an army colonel by anti-government protest guards has been condemned in mysterious leaflets currently being circulated around the army's headquarters.

Col. Witthawat Wattanakul, a staff officer of the Royal Thai Armed Force Headquarters, was allegedly attacked in northern Bangkok early morning on 25 April.

Pol.Col. Thanawat Wattanakul, a commander at Chokechai Police Station and the elder brother of Col. Witthawat, said the army officer was driving home on 24 April when he encountered traffic cones blocking Chaeng Wattana Road near a campsite maintained by the anti-government protest group, the People's Committee for Absolute Democracy With the King As Head of State (PCAD).

Col. Witthawat reportedly got out of his car and began to remove the traffic cones. A group of PCAD guards then opened fire on the officer and rushed forward to beat him violently, despite Col. Witthawat's pleas for mercy, said Pol.Col. Thanawat.

Pol.Col. Thanawat claimed that the guards only stopped assaulting Col. Witthawat after they found his military ID card while searching his car.

Medical workers at Mongkutwattana Hospital said Col. Witthawat was admitted to the emergency room in a severe condition, with bloody bruises all over his body and small gunshot wounds on his feet. Since then his condition has gradually improved, hospital workers said.

Col. Witthawat was later moved to Mongkut Klao Hospital, the officials added.

Pol.Col. Thanawat said his brother remembers the faces of the perpetrators and intends to press charges against them.

The incident appears to have caused outrage among a number of military personnel. Shortly after the news the alleged attack surfaced, mysterious leaflets condemning the incident began circulating around the Royal Thai Armed Force Headquarters, our correspondent says.

The leaflets harshly criticise high-ranking army officers for their perceived failure to protect army personnel from the brutal "thuggery" of the PCAD guards. The fliers also urge army commanders to "restore the dignity" of the Royal Thai Army by taking concrete actions against the anti-government militants.

It is not clear who is responsible for the publication of the documents.

A spokesperson of the Royal Thai Police said the police will increase patrols around Chaeng Wattana Road to prevent further cases of violence.

Seems a bit strange that if they shot at him they hit his feet.

Yep.... very fishy goings on indeed.

A few things not right about this story.... Or indeed this entire incident.

On which probably hangs another interesting story, but don't worry the red brigade will be here shortly to put everyone on the right trail, even if it is a load of codswallop.

I don't think for a minute that leaflets are circulating criticizing the top brass... That would not happen in a hundred years in the army which would come down hard on any form of internal dissent of that nature..... just Khaosod embellishment.

First if all, the guy must have been pissed to do what he did at a rally site knowing full well that it is a very secure and sensitive area..... I would check into this idiot's background to see if he is a confirmed red shirt who may have done this deliberately and ended up getting more than he bargained for. Looks to me like he willingly walked into this.

Not that I condone the violence that met him, but he has to take some of the blame here.... Who in their right mind would thrust their hand into a wasp's nest?.... Something bothers me about that whole setup.

I have no problem with the guards arming themselves to protect the protesters, the government won't allow the army protecting them to be armed, and the police who ARE armed are linked with the attackers on these sites.... As well as CAPO.

Appears to me with CAPO seeming on the edge of another possible crackdown, maybe they needed a precursor to do a sweep of all PDRC sites and remove all ability for them to defend themselves before the red shirts attack.

Here we go, as the above... all the reds protesting!

The story itself is full of holes.... and one thing in particular... if the guards really believed he parked his car there, assuming he did, he would not be alive.

This is cock and bull.... and a red-shirt scam, as he was shot in the feet. He prob got about 6M baht from Chalerm and Jatuporn to act as a witness and actor receiving a brutal attack from PDRC guards...... yet.... how come he was shot in the feet/foot.... and lived?

Complete and utter <dele>ollocks story.

Not the first time, you may remember they shot 2 soldiers on April 6th, the man they tried to drown in the from the Chao Praya river, And PDRC guards have shot their own people even remember this?

From now on, each and every guard will have to follow the rules and all 2,400 of the PDRC guards will be retrained at the group's Lumpini Park base camp.

Poom refused to comment on speculation that Jirayuth, 40, was shot by a fellow PDRC guard, saying everyone should wait for results of the police investigation rather than assuming that the killing resulted from infighting.

There are many people from different backgrounds at the Lumpini Park rally site, so it is not unusual for fights to break out, he said, pointing out that these conflicts were between individuals, not guards.

After PDRC brought its six rallies together at Lumpini Park last month, the base camp has been divided into six villages corresponding to the six stages - Lat Phrao, Victory Monument, Pathumwan, Lumpini Park, Asoke and Ratchaprasong.

Guards stay at their villages and search the bags of people entering their area.

Oh boy, perhaps if they held some sort of vote to decide who runs the site? Instead of each having their own little fiefdom? and shooting their competing fiefdoms guards?

It's also worth re-reading this article:

In a third incident, a security guard called Yuem Nillah was attacked and thrown into the Bang Pakong River last week. He survived.

Methi said the three cases were similar as the victims were men and had been assaulted before the first two were shot dead. Also, all three had been tied up.

He said that based on Yuem's accounts, the three victims had apparently been attacked by men who appeared to be members of the PDRC. Yuem also told police the attackers pulled his clothes off and dressed him to look like a PDRC protester.

All three victims were found wearing a PDRC wristband and a whistle round their necks attached by a cord in the colours of the national flag.

I've pointed to this again and again, they kill their own people as false flag attacks. Here, they kidnapped people off the streets, dressed people up as PDRC garb and threw them in the river to drown. So if the killings are done by PDRC, who exactly are the guards more afraid of? The guards in the other villages in Lumpini or some imagined red military force that doesn't exist? Since when has the military ever run coups for the reds??

They're thugs and they are killers, and if Yuem hadn't survived and been pulled out of the river in time, you'd think that PDRC people had been kidnapped and drowned, but no, these were just people on the street the guards kidnapped, dressed up and then tried to murder (succeeded 2/3 times).

If that were true, why would anyone go through the trouble of finding a random stranger to play the victim? Why not recruit one of their own? Or actually find an actual PDRC supporter? Your theory doesn't hold any water.

Seems a bit strange that if they shot at him they hit his feet.

In Ireland, the IRA used to shoot people who stood against them in the knees.

Shooting people in the feet would not kill them but it would cripple them for life, it was called punishment shooting.

Firstly it's not a theory, it's the testimony of the man they saved from the river, the one whom they'd dressed in PDRC whistle and armbands, shot, thrown in the river. I gave you the link, there were 3 such incidents. Two of them died, one survived and explained what happened to him.

Secondly suppose I came to you and said "We'd like to tie you up, shoot you and drop your body in the river", would you volunteer? Would you be that recruit???

Are you suggesting they kidnap a PDRC real supporter, guarded by army and videod, people they're mixed with, and whose friends can identify them easily, to make the killing more convincing? And that failing to kidnap their own person is proof the testimony of the drown/shot man is false????

If this happened in your own country, would you say the same? Would your people tolerate armed thugs setting up checkpoints and beating up innocent people. Don't come to thailand and apply a different standard. We are people too.

Glad the armed forces, Thai and the rest of the world are slowly coming to realize the truth. They are also probably behind all these M79 attacks and are just trying to pin it on the government to garner domestic and international sympathy.

Well I obviously pushed YOUR buttons, and I am glad I did.... You have just displayed the classic red shirt support traits of blindness and denial, and if you think for a minute that anyone from my side of the political opinion camp will be licking their wounds when all is played out, I suggest you go back and count the numbers of supporters on both sides of the void... If anyone will be hobbling home defeated, it will be PTP/UDD red shirts like they did in 2010 and will again if they dare to challenge the people and the army in the future till there is nothing left of them.

If other people's opinions that don't suit your narrative upset you so much, don't cry about it... just go and join another forum.... one about puppy dogs and furry little kittens or something.

Who is in charge of Thailand? Why do you want these thugs in charge? They beat and shot someone just for moving some traffic cones? What law gives them the right to set up a checkpoint? What is this Afghanistan?

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

No... In Afghanistan, anyone attempting to enter a sensitive area by removing traffic cones would be shot dead in fantastic style.. No comparison.

He wasn't just 'removing traffic cones' he was trying to drive his car through an area that has been shot at and bombed several times a week for the past 4 months or so.

The big question is....

How much was he paid to do that???... because it is not a rational thing to do, and while I may admit that if it was for example just someone who was visiting the country and has been in a coma for the past 4 months, then it may well be excusable..... But a soldier based in BKK????????... Come on f-f-s.....

All these setups that seem to point accusatory fingers at PDRC/PCAD guards always seem to stink to the high heavens of a setup.... Why do you think that could be????

Like I said... Things going on here are very fishy indeed, I would not be surprised to see CAPO now cite this as a reason to extend the ISA (coincidental timing?) or in fact order a sweep of all PDRC sites by the army to remove all methods of possible defense before they send in the red shirt assassins to finish them off once and for all.

Or are you going to deny that CAPO are not capable of this???

This incident begs the question: Who is in charge of law and order?

At the moment it seems to be CAPO and the DSI... well.... they are in charge of law.... but certainly not peace or order.
